Trend: The geode cake promises to conquer cool couples

A novelty is making success among brides on Pinterest and Instagram: the geode cake – a cake that looks like it has a real rock embedded in its body.

Contrary to traditional wedding cakes, decorated only with fondant and sugar flowers, the geode cake promises to be a different option for less conventional couples.

The idea arose in the creative mind of the American confectioner Rachel Teufelwho runs the kitchen of the renowned Intricate Icings Cake Designlocated in Denver in the United States. Famous for producing unusual wedding cakes that arouse some strangeness, she was responsible for making the geode cake famous on social media.

This type of cake follows the conventional tiered format and has a white fondant topping. On one side, however, a “geographic accident” stands out.

In the geode cake, the focus of the decoration is on the large sculpted notch from which replicas of crystals sprout. The effect is inspired by rock crystals and, when well executed, is capable of hypnotizing guests with its realism and richness of detail. Usually the technique uses dyes and edible sugar crystals.

The marbled versions also follow the geode cake proposal and serve as an alternative for couples who want a different cake.
