Too lazy to work out in the cold? Understand why winter training yields more –

Who never gave up on a workout when they saw that the day was cold? Probably all of us! Although it is theoretically more difficult to get your body moving during the winter – due to several factors such as laziness, zero desire to work out, lack of energy – there are great reasons for you to throw yourself in the gym. We consulted some personal trainers and listed the main ones:

1. You burn more calories
With cold, the organism needs to produce more heat to maintain body temperature. This causes the metabolism to accelerate to warm us up, which is great for burning fat. “Precisely for this reason, people who live in countries where the winter is more rigorous gain less weight. This idea that the body needs more food at this time of year is a psychological issue, without any metabolic explanation”, explains Cau Saad, personal trainer from São Paulo and star of our reality show “Cau na Real”.

2. Post-workout fatigue is less
This is an important advantage. As, for environmental reasons, we manage to better regulate the body’s internal temperature, the muscle makes more intense efforts before getting really tired. “This is good because it even helps to burn more fat over time”, says Brunno Elias, member of the Brazilian Society of Personal Trainers, from Campo Grande.

3. + mood throughout training
You must have noticed that in winter we sweat less, right? This is one of the reasons why training yields more. “When we perform regular physical activity during this season of the year, we have more drive and disposition because the body supports more heat from the exercise, since the external environment is more comfortable (gym or park), because it is cooler and cooler”, says Matheus Amaral, personal trainer from São Paulo.

4. It scares away any depression
Yes, during the winter people tend to get depressed – either because of the colder weather or because they spend more time at home. Consequently, there is a drop in the production of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that promotes a feeling of well-being. Therefore, we feel unmotivated. “To overcome this feeling of sadness, most people end up taking it out on food. This justifies the extra kilos”, says Cau. The good news is that the domino effect can be avoided with a simple attitude: physical activity, which stimulates the release of endorphins, a substance linked to the feeling of pleasure.

5. Who works out in the winter… Show off six packs in the summer
As difficult as it may be, starting the summer project in winter is easier because the organism is more accelerated. “I joke that those who train in the winter, take off their shirts in the summer. If you start training only in the summer, you won’t have the body you want in time. Therefore, the colder months are ideal, despite the laziness that hits. In addition, the milder temperature is also an extra help when working out”, says Rafael Lund personal trainer and fitness columnist for .
