At first, he asks the saleswoman for the store number (555-2310) and then asks her to give him her home phone number (555-3812). The boy is surprised, because all numbers in Los Angeles start with three “fives”.

A lot of numbers with three “fives” are fiction. However, by calling 555-1212 you can actually contact US and Canadian User Assistance.

If in the USA you are unlikely to contact the number from the movies, then in other countries you can easily become a victim of local pranksters. For example, in Australia, the 555 combination is used in one of the Sydney regions and outside of Melbourne. Therefore, the possibility that the real phone of an Australian person will coincidentally appear in the scene of an American movie is quite high.

Currently, the prefix is ​​being actively used by several US service providers. For this reason, telephone operators have decided to restrict film companies from choosing fictitious numbers to call. In this way, they are now only authorized to use numbers between the range of 555-0100 to 555-0199 in movies and series.

Now screenwriters can only choose from one hundred fictional combinations, so the same phone can appear in different films.
