There is no coincidence, there is synchronicity

What seems like a coincidence can be a synchronicity of events, a force much more magical than chance. Learn here what it consists of.

Surely at some point a book or an advertisement has given you the answer to those doubts that you were continually asking yourself; that you were going to call a person on the phone and at that very moment, they are the one calling you; that you have had an unexpected encounter in a place you didn’t even think about or that you have found the exact person when you needed them appearing out of nowhere…

We have all experienced at some point a coincidence that seemed so improbable that it seems magical and epiphanic to us, as if there were connections between events, people or information through invisible threads that we can only glimpse at moments. According to the Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung, this is not coincidence, but synchronicity, one of the most enigmatic and surprising aspects of our universe.

“There is no such thing as chance, and what appears to us as chance arises from the deepest sources.”

-Friedrich Schiller-

What is synchronicity?

This concept has existed at least since the Vedas but It was Carl G. Jung who coined the term synchronicity, referring to “the simultaneity of two events linked by meaning but in a non-causal way” as the coming together of interior and exterior events in a way that cannot be explained but makes some sense to the person observing it.

Jung came to the conclusion that there is an intimate connection between the individual and his environment, which at certain moments exerts an attraction that ends up creating coincidental circumstances, having a specific value for the people who experience it, a symbolic meaning or being an external manifestation of the collective unconscious. It is these types of events that we usually attribute to chance, chance, luck or even magic, depending on our beliefs.

Synchronicity would represent us on the physical plane, for example, the idea or solution that is hidden in our mind, disguised as surprise and coincidence, thus being much easier to achieve.

Like Jung, Wolfgang Pauli, Nobel Prize winner in physics, thought that synchronicity was one of the expressions that characterized the unus mundus, a unified reality from which everything that exists emerges and returns. This conception coincides with the Theory of Totality and Implied Order of Quantum Mechanics by the American physicist David Bohm.

“We are like islands in the sea, separated from the surface but connected in depth”

-William James-

Synchronicity: magical moments

A synchronous experience usually comes into our lives when we least expect it, but at the exact moment, sometimes changing the direction of our path and influencing our thoughts. But to do this, we have to be receptive and attentive to the world around us, creating openness to that possibility of synchronicity.

The more alert we are to our surroundings, the more likely it is to happen around us or at least pay attention to it… From small conversations, songs on the radio or advertising messages for example, to seemingly “chance” encounters. You just have to be attentive.

If we let circumstances flow and do not pressure or force the occurrence of events or the will of people, while maintaining a receptive and open attitude, letting ourselves be carried away by our intuition and our inner wisdom, we will open ourselves to “the magic” that offers the experience of synchronicity. If we know how to listen to it, it can become a good guide for our lives.

Perhaps this is one of the many universal laws that cannot be proven with too much certainty, but nevertheless its presence has guided the lives of multitudes of people and is present throughout the history of humanity, some of the reasons being to keep this concept current. Let us remember that Don Juan already told Carlos Castaneda that luck was actually a form of power.

Even this article may have been the result of synchronicity…
