The teacher who knitted dolls for the students because she was homesick tells details of her idea

It’s amazing how much you put your heart and soul into it when you’re doing something you really enjoy. When there is passion and interest in the work, nothing can stop us. Ingeborg dedicated 43 years of her life to the art of teaching. Since lately she can’t meet her dear students in the classroom, she decided to knit small dolls that represent them. That was the way she found to kill the longing a little and feel that they are closer.

This loving teacher shared with awesome.club the inspiration to knit the students’ dolls and told her what it meant to her to make this idea a reality.

Being away from the students for a long time has been very difficult for Ingeborg because she is used to having her days filled with laughter, cuddling and lots of mischief. Although she can teach virtual classes, she thought it would be fun to get creative with other activities and decided to make cute puppets of her beloved students.

Ingeborg needed four hours to finish just one doll. To knit the clothes, she thought about what each student usually wears, and chose the most appropriate combinations to differentiate each one of them. The teacher also decided to make a doll of herself, so that the classroom would be complete.

“They are very important to me, I’m with them five days a week. I see how they grow and mature,” she said. For Ingeborg, making the dolls was very rewarding, mainly because she was able to see them all together again, albeit as a group of woolen dolls. After many hours of work, the friendly teacher decided to share the result. Students and parents were delighted with this beautiful gesture from the teacher.

Until they go back to school, Ingeborg will continue to teach virtual classes. She has fun with her students by organizing activities that include children’s songs, reading books, playing with languages and math. And about the dolls, she guarantees that as soon as the students pass the year they will be able to take them home.

For now, the dolls will serve for guessing games like ‘who’s who’ and thinking about what it would be like to build a house for them. Many teachers would love to have “toys” like this, but the teacher said that she doesn’t think about making dolls for other classrooms because she has other hobbies, like painting.

Ingeborg is a clear example that nothing is more important than sharing the love we feel for others and our work. “The most beautiful thing about being a teacher is following the growth of the students. I love the spontaneity of children,” she said.
