The story of the talented 10-year-old who makes impressive sculptures out of modeling clay

Do you remember what your dreams were when you were little? Josué Benjamín, a 10-year-old Venezuelan boy, makes sculptures of famous characters with polymer clay and modeling clay. At a very young age, he became a great example of perseverance and his talent caught the attention of thousands of users on social networks. One of his biggest dreams is to continue to have the opportunity to do what he loves and inspire people. For this reason, in addition to his sculptures, he decided to write a book called What fault am I? to share your life experiences. After all, they could help other kids like him move forward, regardless of the circumstances.

It all started when Josué was walking with his parents and saw a Mario Bros. He was 4 years old and, at that moment, what he wanted most was to buy him and take him to play. However, his mother could not fulfill her son’s wishes, which made him very sad. Arriving home, his father bought a box of modeling clay and, to cheer him up a little, showed him how he could make some dolls himself.

“I made a Mario Bros. exactly how I wanted. So, I discovered that I could make all the dolls I wanted to have with my own hands and that’s how sadness turned into joy”, he declared. Without planning, this father’s small loving gesture became an important part of his son’s life and a great opportunity for his future.

Despite being just a child, Josué is very dedicated to the things he does and undoubtedly has magical and patient hands. The attention to detail of each sculpture is something that catches the eye. The curious thing is that, most of the time, the dolls he creates are characters or celebrities who inspire him or mark him in some way. The young man creates super famous movie characters, especially villains and superheroes.

In addition to creating science fiction characters, Josué loves to make sculptures of singers or other celebrities and is always looking for ways to give these works as gifts to the celebrities themselves, so they can keep them as a good memory. Or, when this is not possible, the small craftsman seeks to show the result of his work to idols through social networks. For this, he counts on the help of his followers to tag the famous in his posts. No matter how long it takes or how complicated it is to make one of these dolls, he loves to create fantastic works with his own hands. “I like to create. I love doing it because it’s a form of expression and I love seeing my creations,” he says.

To create a sculpture, Joshua first prepares clay or modeling clay with the colors. Then he starts working on the face, based on an image, and only at the end he supports the body on a pair of wire strands. To detail his sculptures, he uses his hands, toothpicks or other special tools. Sometimes he takes the dolls to the oven midway through the process so there is no disastrous mixing of colors. Finally, he takes them to the oven again when the base of the dough is ready, so that the work is done.

One of the most important aspects of a child’s life is receiving the love and support of their parents. In the case of Josué, having this support was very valuable, as they are his accomplices and accompany him in all projects. “I think I’m lucky to do what I love and to have a family like mine. They always tell me they are happy to see me happy,” he shared.

His mother admires many of his qualities and considers him a persevering child and a perfectionist with what he does. “Children can teach their parents a lot. My Josué does not give up until he is satisfied with the result of the sculpture he is working on and this is something very admirable that can be applied to many areas in life”, she says proudly.

Josué’s passion for sculpture is huge and he hopes to be able to dedicate himself to it when he grows up. At the moment, his creations are not for sale, as he has taken the activity more as a diversion. In addition to modeling clay, this little genius loves to sing and motivate others. In his few years of life, he has already given lectures to older people, auctioned his dolls to help those in need and published a book in which he tells his experiences as a child who lives in Venezuela and dreams of a better future.

“I have always enjoyed inspiring others. I think my experiences can help people and I loved being able to tell my story. The advice I can give you is to believe in your dreams.
