The cirrus clouds are at an altitude of 5 to 14 thousand meters and resemble long threads, arcs or feathers, being composed of ice crystals. They do not cause precipitation to reach the ground. Therefore, the presence of these clouds indicates a climate without rain.

When cirrus clouds get thicker, they descend and cover part of the sky, turning into cirrocumulus. These are small clouds that resemble waves in the sea. They indicate a strong warming, revealing that, in a short time, it will rain a lot.

When the clouds get too low, they turn into cirrostratus, resembling thin leaves spread across the sky. Clouds like this appear 12 to 24 hours before a prolonged rain.

Cumulus are small, fluffy white clouds that look like cotton candy. They do not release water, so their presence is a guarantee of good weather. But in the face of these clouds, do not rush to celebrate.

That’s because cumulus clouds can indicate a buildup of storm clouds, and rain could fall within the next 8 hours. But if they are small cumulus, or if they disappear at dusk, it is because the weather will be good and constant.

You must have seen clouds that resemble small balls of wool scattered across the sky: these are the cumulus. If you see clouds like the ones in the image above, it’s worth leaving the house prepared, because it’s likely to rain a lot in a few hours.

This kind of gray “sheet” resembles a mist covering the entire sky. These are thin clouds, so despite the darkness, rain is unlikely. The strata clouds appear before the weather clears.

Here, everything is clear: if the clouds are dark, it’s because it’s going to rain. But things are not always simple. Pay attention to the color of the cloud: according to the shades, you can determine what the weather will look like:

Very dark clouds represent the arrival of heavy rain without wind. The brownish color indicates the approach of rains with strong winds. Gray clouds often appear over large areas, heralding light but prolonged rain.
