Creminho lovers will like this novelty: new products are starting to appear on the shelves with the promise of specifically treating belly fat. It is clear that anti-cellulite cosmetics also act on the fat storage (especially in the thigh area), but the two types of cream have their differences. Products for localized fat or size reduction, as stated on some labels, contain active ingredients that break down fat cells or increase their metabolism, always with the aim of emptying them, improving body contour. Caffeine is the best and most consecrated example and is present in almost all formulations associated with peptides and plant extracts that enhance this effect, in addition to fighting sagging. “The ones indicated for cellulite, in addition to these same substances, act on microcirculation and reduce the production of free radicals that cause inflammation, two triggers for the formation of the wavy appearance”, explains dermatologist Adilson Costa, from São Paulo.

Does the latter seem more complete? “The problem with applying anti-cellulite cream on the belly is that it has a superficial action. To combat localized abdominal fat, it is necessary to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin”, says Maurício Pupo, cosmetologist from São Paulo. “The evolution of cosmetic technology allowed lighter textures, easier to spread with actives capable of reaching the fat layer”, says Júlia Séve, director of the Vichy brand in Brazil. For all these reasons, if your biggest complaint is that excess fat below the navel or the love handles on the side, it is definitely worth investing in belly releases. But remember: creams support a healthy lifestyle, that is, doing regular physical activity and having a balanced diet. Alone, they will make little difference.

Paschoal Rossetti Filho, professor of cosmetology and director of research and development at the Instituto Mezzo de Cosmetologia, gives tips to boost the effect of the belly cream:

1. The application of the product must be made on dry and clean skin. Never on top of body oil or other cosmetics.
