The 5 best teas to get rid of coughs

Air pollution is wreaking havoc on our health and one of the results of this constant exposure is a persistent cough that often appears for no reason.

This is the body’s reaction to something it considers dangerous, causing the body itself to start producing spasms and fluids.

Another cause of cough is colds or infections, which arise due to changes in temperature, contamination with viruses or some problem with the immune system.

There are teas for all situations that can help with coughing. Get to know some and get rid of this discomfort:

1. Thyme tea

This herb is very good for vocal tract and lung infections. It is also an effective anti-inflammatory that relieves pain, as well as working as an antibacterial.

2. Lemon tea with honey and cinnamon

Lemon is a very effective antibacterial, but its acidity can be bad in direct contact with the tonsils. That’s why it’s good to combine it with other items, softening this acidity. Honey has the power to kill bacteria, acting as a protective filter. And cinnamon helps break down the mucous membranes.

3. Mint tea

Mint is great for coughs and inflammation, especially if you are having trouble breathing, as it dissolves mucous membranes that are often very thick and cannot be expelled from the body. For your tea to be even more potent, add a cinnamon stick.

4. Rooibos tea with lemon

The plant is a shrub from the legume family, widely used for infusions. Rich in minerals that the immune system needs, it is indicated for cases of allergies, colds and flu, especially when combined with lemon.

5. Ginger tea with honey

Not everyone likes the taste of ginger, especially in tea form, but give it a try, because it’s really good. It has an anti-inflammatory effect, relieves pain and dissolves mucous membranes, treating cough from the inside out.

All these teas can be used in cases of cough, no matter if it is chronic or temporary. They have no side effects – unless you are allergic to any of the ingredients. A good way to consume it is in the morning and taking a thermos bottle to drink throughout the day.
