Solo dad shows up in a dress to his kids’ school for a very special reason

Panuthai had to overcome some challenges in this regard and faced many difficulties during the process. Panuthai is a single father from Kanchanaburi, Thailand, of two children: Imsome and Ozone. Thailand celebrates National Mother’s Day on August 12, a day when students are accompanied by their mothers to school. Panuthai knew that this moment could be complicated for his children, so he decided to plan something special: he dressed as a “mother” and accompanied the children to the classroom. Kornpat Ae Sukhom, a friend of his, posted a video of this episode with the following description: “He didn’t want his children to feel left out because their mother wasn’t there.”

As you can see in the video posted on Facebook, during this kind of “ritual” children usually sit at their mother’s feet to express their gratitude for everything she does. Ozone and Imsome did just that with their dad, showing their love for him.

As we said, the record was posted on Facebook by Kornpat Ae Sukhom, a friend of Panuthai, and she made sure to write “Best mother of 2018” in the post. The video went viral and had over six million views.

“Everyone enjoyed it, laughed and took pictures with him,” said Sukhom. “The children didn’t really know what was going on and to some extent they didn’t seem to understand why their father was wearing a dress.”

It is clear that there is a gender problem when we think of single parents. We know it’s not easy to raise a child without the help of a second person, but that doesn’t mean that this job can’t be done well. And the fact that some tasks are still usually assigned to women shows that we have a long way to go to combat very strong traits of machismo and misogyny in society.

Many people think that taking care of children is a task for the mother and that a man is not capable of raising a child alone.

Panuthai’s fight is to normalize the role of a single parent and ensure that people understand that he is capable of taking responsibility for raising children and giving them a happy life. The dress he wore was just a symbol to show that there is more than one type of family and to make it clear that a single father or mother is capable of taking care of their children like any other family.
