Smart vase turns your plant into a virtual pet

Taking care of a plant is not always an easy task. In the rush of everyday life, we end up forgetting to comply with basic care, such as watering or putting it out to sunbathe. And until we notice the signs that the plant is not doing well, it may be too late.

But a creation of the Luxembourgish brand Mu Design promises to end this “communication problem”. To that end, his team created Moonan intelligent vase that transforms the plant into a kind of virtual pet.

Activated by an application, the vase serves six different vegetable families and is activated by reading a QR Code that contains the specifics of the plant. It also contains a motion sensor and allows the user to manually adapt their animation preferences and viewfinder facial proportions.

Once functioning, the pot will display six different animations to indicate the state of the plant. Are they:

  • Thirst: Points out the right time to water the plant, based on the soil moisture level.
  • Sick: Indicates if too much water has been added.
  • Vampire: If sun exposure isn’t enough, the animation pretends that Lua has become a vampire.
  • Half closed eyes: Warn in case too much light is hurting the plant.
  • Cold: In case of temperature drop, Lua sneezes.
  • Warm: The display indicates if the plant is exposed to too much heat.

In addition, nine animations make up the device with the purpose of reinforcing the idea of ​​something alive. Thus, Lua can also be happy, confused, tired, irritated, among other things.

In all, it took 13 months to design and develop the device, which relied on crowdfunding to get off the ground. In December of this year, those who contributed will receive their copies of Lua. Each unit cost around R$416.
