Skin undertone: how to discover yours –

In the product advertisement, did you look at the model that had the most similar tone to your skin tone, went there and bought the foundation, swearing that you had made the right choice and when you went to test it, did you see that you were completely wrong? This can also happen with other products, such as concealer and powder, because in practice, the result can be different due to your skin’s undertone. “By identifying the skin undertone, the chance of not making a mistake in coloring the products is much greater, thus ensuring more harmonic makeup and within your skin tone”, explains dermatologist Ketleen Conceição.

What is skin undertone?

The subtom is the background color of the skin and goes beyond the primary color, i.e. light, medium or dark. Despite this, the undertone is also divided into three types, namely: cold, neutral and warm (or olive). “The concept of cold is when the skin has slightly bluish, purple or pink tones. Already the warm, contemplates the tones of yellow, orange and red. And the neutral is the mixture of hot and cold and then, in this case, the tones are usually brown, gray, beige and even shades of green”, explains Conceição.

How to identify your skin undertone?

It may seem complex, but there are a few ways to discover your skin tone, see 3 options:

You can observe the color of your veins, so if they are more brownish or green, it means that your undertone is warm. If the veins are purplish or blue, the undertone is cool. Already the neutral undertone, is the mix of blue and green.

“To identify your undertone, look at how your skin looks after you’re out in the sun. If you are more tanned, your undertone is warm. If the skin turns redder, the undertone is cool. And if the skin is not red or tanned, your undertone is neutral”, he adds.

Finally, you can also use silver and gold accessories (bracelets, necklaces, earrings…) to discover your undertone. If silver matches better, it means your undertone is cool, but if it’s gold, your undertone is warm. Now, if both match, the skin undertone is neutral.

In addition to choosing the color of the products, identifying the skin’s undertone also affects the choice of clothing items, which can enhance, smooth or enhance the skin.
