The history of our Planet is full of impressive mysteries. It would be impossible to try to explain them all, but along with the awesome.clubyou can take a peek through the keyhole.
1. Moa, the giant bird
Moa was a type of giant flying bird that lived in New Zealand and, according to one theory, became extinct in the 14th century due to the Maori aborigines. The strangest thing is that, in one of the expeditions carried out recently, a surprisingly well-preserved moa paw was found…
2. The fortress of Sacsayhuamán (Peru)
This ceremonial fortress surprises with its impeccable masonry, without a drop of cement or similar material. Some stones are so well fitted that, between them, not even a sheet of paper can fit.
3. Puerta del Sol, Bolivia
The Gate of the Sun is located in Tiwanaku, an ancient and mysterious city. Some scientists believe that it was the center of a huge empire during the first millennium of our era. The meaning of the drawings that are marked on it is not yet known, but it is possible that they are related to astrology and astronomy.
4. Longyou Cave – China
These caves are believed to be around 2,000 years old and are among the largest ever excavated by man. Nevertheless, they represent an enormous mystery that has attracted researchers ever since. Archaeologists, engineers, architects and geologists from around the world try to explain how, who and why they were built. They still couldn’t find the answers.
5. The obelisk, Egypt
The obelisk began to be carved directly from the rock, but little by little, cracks appeared on its surface, so it was left there. Its enormous size amazes all visitors.
6. The Sunken City of Yonaguni, Japan
This place was discovered by Khachiro Arataki, a diving instructor. The sunken city contradicts a number of scientific theories. The rock from which it was carved sank approximately 10,000 years ago, long before the pyramids were built in Egypt. According to the theories created before Yonaguni’s discovery, at that time people lived in caves and their diet was very primitive, quite different from the sophisticated one for the stone city period.
7. Mohenjo-Daro (The City of the Dead), Pakistan
What caused this city to die is a mystery to archaeologists. In 1992, Indian archaeologist R. Banardzhi found these ancient ruins on the banks of the Indus River. What caused its destruction and what was the fate of its inhabitants remains a great mystery to researchers.
8. Ancient town of L’Anse aux Meadows, Canada
This settlement was founded by the ‘Vikings’ approximately 1,000 years ago. Their existence shows that these people arrived in North America long before the birth of Christopher Columbus.
9. The Stone Age tunnels
The discovery of a vast network of underground tunnels stretching across Europe, from Scotland to Turkey, shows us that people who lived during the Stone Age didn’t just spend their days hunting and gathering. Still, the true purpose of these tunnels remains a mystery. Some researchers think that they served to protect people from predators, while others claim that it is an underground system that people used to travel great distances protected from the dangers of war.
10. Giant stone balls from Costa Rica
They were discovered for the first time in the 1930s by construction workers who cut down the forest to plant bananas. Local legends say that there is gold hidden inside the stones. Some of them were broken, others exploded, but nothing was found inside.
