In June 1996, one of Rede Globo’s most successful telenovelas premiered on our small screens: O Rei do Gado. The novel portrayed a romance between a humble farmer and a rancher. The story, which has two distinct moments (one historical and one in modernity), showed, in addition to a great love story, an important debate on social difference in Brazil.
