Rescued kitten named Duchess has 3 kittens just like the ones in the movie “Aristocats”

“Nature imitates art”, the writer Oscar Wilde once said, and there are a few stories that prove that phrase. In 2018, Shelby Sewel-Lopez rescued a white cat that was in terrible condition. Not only did she look weak, she was shedding and infested with parasites. Shelby christened her the “Duchess,” and set out to do whatever she could to save her. And she did! But that was just the beginning of everything. Because Shelby would witness an adventure that has nothing to do with Disney movies.

It was 2018, in the US state of Texas, and a very sick white kitten, with hernia, parasites and problems related to the lack of affection and care, was waiting for a second chance to have a good life from fate. That was not easy, as her health was so fragile that she needed a lot of love and dedication to save herself. But all was not lost. Shelby Sewell-Lopez appeared in the cat’s life and, moved, decided to adopt her. The kitten got the second chance she so desperately needed.

Shelby Sewel-Lopez and her family named the kitten Duchess, after the protagonist of the animation aristocats, and everyone collaborated so that the new member could move on. Recovery was difficult, but Duchess was always docile and grateful, making the whole process easier. So much love could only have a happy ending, and Duchess became a beautiful and elegant cat, who in no way remembered the difficult days she had already gone through.

Shelby and her family thought that from now on, Duchess’s story would be like any pet’s. She was healthy, she had a home, affection… what more could she want? As they thought she was neutered, they let her out without worrying about the possibility that the cat would get into love conflicts.

But one day, they found Duchess inside a closet. She was carrying in her mouth what they thought was a small rodent. When they looked more closely, they realized that what Duchess was carrying in her mouth was a newborn cat. Yes, Duchess had become a mother!

However, that was not all. Then Duchess gave birth to a second kitten, then a third, then a fourth… And just like that, suddenly, the family gained four new members.

As the first three were the same color as the Duchess of aristocats, the family decided that they should be named after the characters: Berlioz, Marie and Toulouse. The last kitten, which at birth had no similarities with the ones in the movie, was named Blue. He proved to be the most affectionate, soon becoming the favorite.

The little ones filled the family home with love and vitality. And they showed that, unlike aristocrats, they don’t need luxuries to live well: affection is enough.

The day Shelby met her Duchess, she didn’t imagine her life would be turned into a fairy tale, but it did. She and her family were so delighted that they decided not to separate the Duchess from her four puppies. In addition, the cat proved to be such an attentive and caring mother that they did not want to stop her from fulfilling her role. It’s a good thing that’s what happened, since today, even with the puppies grown, Duchess doesn’t stop taking care of all of them.

Today, the story of real-life Aristocats has been surprising the world, and the kitties even have a Facebook profile, and have become real web celebrities. However, in addition to the resemblance of the mother cat and her puppies to the Disney animation characters, history proves that love is an inexhaustible source of surprises and joys. We have no doubt that the brilliant Irish writer was right: “Nature imitates art”, and it can be so great as to deserve an Oscar.
