Since its debut in 2005, Grey’s Anatomy 🇧🇷Grey’s Anatomy) gained public preference thanks to its concept that combined medical themes with drama and romance, all in the same hospital. Over these 15 years, your fans got used to the actors who embodied each of the characters in the plot and don’t imagine them with different faces, but what would it be like if the work was done by other actors?

At the awesome.club we took charge of researching and brought 8 characters from the series that could have been played by other actors. Can you imagine Meredith played by another actress?

Although few can imagine another actor than Patrick Dempsey playing McDreamy, the truth is that this character was initially offered to Rob Lowe, who turned it down because he didn’t believe the series would be successful. Years later, the actor admitted that he bitterly regretted it, as his denial cost him around $70 million.

It is impossible to forget Dr. Arizona Robbins, wonderful character that Jessica Capshaw played in the series; however, this was not his first attempt at casting. The actress auditioned to play Nurse Rose, Derek’s short-lived novel in season five, played by Lauren Stamile.

Undoubtedly, Grey’s Anatomy it wouldn’t have been the same without the character of the brilliant Cristina Yang; however, this was about to happen, as Sandra Oh initially auditioned for the character Miranda Bailey, but later realized that she would like to play Cristina and the producers gave her the role. Chandra Wilson was the one who hooked up with Miranda Bailey.

For many, it would be impossible to imagine the initial group of medical residents without the George O’Malley we know, but the truth is that T.R. Knight almost didn’t get to audition for the character. The actor was little known at the time and would hardly have landed such a significant role; however, he didn’t give up and not only did the audition, but was engraved in the memory of the fans.

The character Alex Karev ended up becoming one of the most iconic in the series, despite what one might think of him at first. Alex was one of the latest additions to the resident medical team, so Justin Chambers had to audition after they had filmed the pilot. The producers liked Justin and added him to the cast, editing the first episode.

If something is evident about this series, it’s that Derek’s character was the most disputed among the actors, because in addition to Rob Lowe as a potential lead, Isaiah Washington also decided to audition for the same role. It is said that Shonda Rhimes wanted a different-skinned pair for Meredith Grey, but Patrick Dempsey ended up winning the role. In the end, Isaiah was offered the role of Preston Burke.

Imagining Meredith with a face other than Ellen Pompeo’s now seems inconceivable, but in fact, Amanda Foreman tried to get the role too. However, when the actress arrived for the audition, her agent informed her that they had already chosen Ellen.

One of the most beloved characters today is Jo Wilson, played by Camilla Luddington. However, few know that the actress skipped her audition, despite knowing that Shonda wanted her for the role. Weeks later, the producers contacted her agent, as they still couldn’t find an actress for Jo, and so they gave Camilla another opportunity, who got the role.

After the bitter experience with Dr. Burke, Shonda gave Cristina a new chance at love: Owen Hunt. Shonda had already cast Joshua Jackson and everything was ready for him to play this character, but the day filming began, the Writers Guild of America West went on strike for 100 days. When recording resumed, Joshua was no longer available and Kevin McKidd took the role.

There is only one Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo, but the truth is that the actress was on the verge of turning down the iconic character. At the time, Ellen had auditioned for another ABC project titled Secret Service, which interested him more. The project didn’t take off and Ellen considered the character Meredith, for which she didn’t even have to pass the audition.
