A study led by Professor Dr. Frank Muscarella of Barry University has shown that bald men are often seen as more socially dominant than other men. The researchers found that while people find men with hair more physically attractive, bald men are often perceived to have a higher social status; that is, people see them as more dominant and superior, but not more threatening.

During the research, Dr. Frank asked people to rate the male participants according to four criteria: attractiveness, aggressiveness, calmness, and maturity. A part of the participants was placed in front of pictures of men with hair; the other saw pictures of the same men, but without hair (they were digitally removed). The results were quite unexpected: bald men were rated as more honest and intelligent.

The discoveries of Dr. Frank were supported by research from the University of Pennsylvania. Psychologist Albert E. Mannes has proven that people tend to view bald men as stronger, more dominant, and successful.

In fact, bald men are not just seen as strong and attractive; they are also seen as more intelligent. Researchers at the University of Saarland analyzed data from a survey of 20,000 people and the results showed that bald people are often perceived as older, wiser and more intelligent.

Being partially bald is not enough

Yes, men need to go completely bald to be seen that way. Research has shown that men with incomplete baldness can be perceived as weak. This may be related to the fact that shaving your head can be perceived as an affirmative sign, a warning to others that the situation is under control and that there is no shame in being bald.
