Why bald men are considered more attractive and masculine than men with hair

Many Hollywood action movies have one thing in common: the bravest heroes, those who aren’t afraid to risk their lives to save the world, are bald. According to a study carried out by the University of Pennsylvania, this fact has an explanation: men without hair are seen as dominant and leading men, in addition to having other characteristics.

To carry out the study, 59 volunteers were divided into 3 groups. 25 photos were shown to each of these groups: 10 of men with shaved heads and the rest of men with different hair styles and lengths. Participants were asked to rate the images according to character traits such as power, trust, influence, and authority.

The researchers also showed pictures of 4 different men to 344 people. Images were shown of men with hair and then of men who had their hair digitally removed to give a shaved head look.

According to the study, men who decide to take the initiative to shave their heads give the impression of being bold and dominant. Instead of feeling ashamed of baldness, they are not afraid to use different methods to improve their image. The survey also revealed that men with entries are considered less masculine than those with a completely shaved head. In this sense, men with shaved heads are seen as more honest than those who try to hide their condition with a wig or implant.

Also according to the study, men with shaved heads are seen as possessing a dominant character, taller and 13% stronger than others. In addition, the volunteers perceived qualities such as physical strength and leadership potential in the men in the photos.

The study also suggested that, depending on how bald men are perceived, they are more likely to achieve a better position in business. They can even pass an image of smarter men. And older people who don’t have hair are seen by women as smarter and wiser.

The survey results specifically speak of completely bald men. That is, the study makes it clear that evidence of baldness conveys an image of greater fragility compared to the total absence of hair.
