Maturity teaches us to give up

I have barely completed my second decade of existence, but in this text I want to express my definitions of maturity, based on experiences or everyday observation. According to the dictionary, maturity is a noble stage to be reached within development. The completeness, the total configuration.

In any analyzed sphere, the mature being is always related to adulthood. However, contrary to common sense, and audaciously to the dictionary, I want to explain my reasons for believing that maturity can arrive at any moment or, not infrequently, be a permanently empty gap.

Maturity teaches us to give up. We come to recognize our absolute absence of omnipotence and, finally, we see the humanity that constitutes us and equates us with one another. Knowing when to leave, when to resign and abstain is an undeniable demonstration of emotional evolution and rationality.

The absence of courage, sometimes, is not necessarily provided by the presence of fear, but by the sensitivity to recognize limits and weaknesses. Recognize which bridges are effectively insurmountable, no matter what that Facebook motivational phrase says.

Maturity has a hint of selfishness. Stop wanting to embrace the world with your hands is a sign of being on the right path. Prioritizing yourself is the start to make yourself available in the right wayand these are lessons to learn at 17 and review at 57. Daily.

Maturity is a frequent construct, an underlined reminder on the fridge that it’s not wrong to give up, run, or hide. Wrong is not respecting individual boundaries to oppressively fit the dictionary definition.
