Main hormones for weight loss –

What you eat and how you exercise matter, of course. But you have to understand that, in order to actually lose weight, the entire hormonal system needs to be working properly. That’s why we’ve separated the main hormones for weight loss here to tell you how they affect this process.

WHAT ARE HORMONES

Hormones are chemical substances responsible for controlling various body functions. These substances are produced and released into the blood by the endocrine system or by specialized neurons, functioning as a cell signal.

Some of the main hormones in the human body are GH (growth hormone), thyroxine (T4), ADH (antidiuretic), adrenaline, insulin, estrogen, progesterone, prolactin, testosterone, among others.

There are some hormones that are more important in this slimming process.

HORMONES FOR WEIGHT LOSS:

THYROID HORMONES

The first of them and the most talked about is Thyroid. Thyroid hormones have total influence over the whole body’s metabolism and they make a lot of difference. “There are many people who say they gain weight because of ‘the thyroid’, but that’s not quite the case. Hypothyroidism is when the thyroid produces hormones in a reduced amount. This certainly slows down the body’s metabolism and, when this happens, the person will have difficulty losing weight, so there may even be an influence, but the cause is essentially a combination of poorly controlled hypothyroidism with poor diet and lack of physical activity. What we need is adequate hormonal control”, says Bruna Marisa, an endocrine doctor specializing in weight loss, a member of SBEM and a graduate in orthomolecular medicine and endocrinology.

HORMONES FOR WEIGHT LOSS:

TESTOSTERONE

Testosterone is another hormone that is part of this whole process and is directly related to lean mass gain and a reduction in the percentage of fat. The more lean mass, the faster our metabolism and the easier the slimming process.

On testosterone, Dr. Bruna Marisa issues an alert:

“Most women use contraceptives, which have female hormones, and the use of these hormones completely interfere with testosterone. Medical follow-up is necessary to measure these hormones, interpret them, to the point of helping in the ideal control to aid this weight loss process.”

HORMONES FOR WEIGHT LOSS:

GH

GH is the hormone responsible for growth and stimulates cell reproduction in humans and other vertebrate animals. “It is a lipolytic hormone and we need it to function properly so that we have a better metabolism and fat-breaking action, which facilitates the weight loss process. To have it at adequate levels, it’s important to know how you sleep, if you wake up rested, if you sleep at least 6 to 8 hours a night… Because GH production is at night and happens in peaks, according to the circadian rhythm. The person who sleeps badly, or who wakes up several times or feels that he is always tired, may be experiencing a deficiency in the production of this hormone and this hinders weight loss”, explains Bruna.

HORMONES FOR WEIGHT LOSS:

CORTISOL

Cortisol is a hormone that increases glucose, a substance that gives the body energy and which, if not properly directed (to be spent on exercise, for example), is stored as fat. It is a corticosteroid of the steroid family, produced by the upper part of the adrenal gland directly involved in the stress response. In summary: stress increases cortisol and cortisol increases glucose, which can increase fat storage.

We know that stress is the enemy of weight loss. But how do you not get stressed with everyday situations?

According to Bruna, in fact, we are not going to stop stressing ourselves, but we need to learn not to let stress continue to affect us throughout the day. The secret is in knowing how to manage these conflicts, knowing how to deal with problems, not thinking or brooding over these problems. The difference is in how you will face and react to natural events, so that it does not negatively interfere with your health.

HORMONAL REPLACEMENT

According to Dr Bruna Marisa, if any of these hormones are at inadequate levels, it is recommended to control them or, in case of deficiency, replace them. “After a thorough medical evaluation, if necessary, hormone replacement should be performed. These are the most important hormones in the process of weight loss and muscle hypertrophy. Therefore, it is necessary to have all of them under control, to be able to assist in the whole process”, she says.
