What is life?

John Lennon once said that “ “Life is what happens while we are making other plans.”, as if there were no time limit, when in reality time is the most finite thing there is and will always come to an end.

We wake up every day as if we had eternity to understand what it means to fulfill ourselves. and take a step beyond our goals. We forget that the transience of the sand when passing to the other side of the clock is our option to cross to the other side and continue climbing the mountain. We also forget that, for the moment, it is the only life we are certain of being able to share.

You can stop to think that maybe something is missing and you can reflect about what are the values that you have not yet understood, if you care so much about doing what society understands as the greatest or what is important to you. It’s not that it’s incompatible, it’s that what matters is what you feel.

We live in a world that does not allow us to realize that, day after day, the sun goes to bed very early. We are so busy dreaming and programming the future that we spend our present time packing up those dreams that we plan to fulfill one day and sending them to a destination where we may never be.

The inexorable passage of time

We postpone our life to a better time in which we have more hours in the day or we have managed to meet our goals. And, with this, we forget that our clock does not know the world beyond the 24 hours it knows how to mark and that the option to fight with our dreams is what today gives us.

We have forgotten that to live is to understand that time passes without detours and that gives us the option to appreciate the little things that truly loving ourselves offers us. Living consists precisely of this, of knowing how to recognize and appreciate the paths that give us clues to understand that our better half is within us and that it does not make much sense to look outside for the most important thing that life offers us.

So, while you prepare to disrupt your world to make all this happen, Don’t forget to keep in mind something that Benjamin Franklin said:

“Human happiness is generally not achieved by great strokes of luck, which may occur rarely, but by small things that happen every day.”
