Know your body’s chakras to balance your energies

According to ancient Hindu culture, we have seven energy centers in the body, called “chakras”. Each of them is responsible for an emotion. Recently, science has discovered that the location of these chakras coincides with a privileged concentration of nerves, which begins at the base of the spine and ends in the cerebral cortex. When they get blocked, because of stressful situations, panic attacks or even lack of physical activity, our mood (and our health) end up being damaged.

CALM

Chakra: Crown.
Location: Top of the head.
Occupation: Generate well-being and happiness.
What to do: Close your eyes and imagine a very bright violet light passing through the top of your head and passing through the mideyebrows, throat, chest, navel and base of the spine, until you “visualize” all the chakras in perfect alignment.

INTUITIVE

Chakra: Front.
Location: Between the eyebrows.
Occupation: Connect with our senses and the world around us.
What to do: Press your thumb or index finger into the region known as the “third eye” for 30 seconds and release. Regarded as one of the most powerful acupuncture points in our body, this chakra clears thinking because it relieves stress, quiets the mind and increases focus and concentration.

COMMUNICATIVE

Chakra: Throat.
Location: Throat.
Occupation: Facilitate the expression of feelings.
What to do: Take a deep breath and pronounce a sound you like as you exhale (it could be the classic “ohm”). Repeat several times. This noise will make the larynx vibrate, stimulating the chakra. The technique also dissolves the mucus accumulated in the throat after sinusitis or allergic crises.

LOVED

Chakra: Heart.
Location: Chest.
Occupation: Allow love to enter and radiate.
What to do: Clasp your hands behind your lower back or lie down with a pillow under your back. Our habit of walking and sitting with our shoulders thrown forward blocks the energy in the chest. Straightening them, therefore, helps to oxygenate the area, leaving us more open to love.

TRUSTING

Chakra: Solar plexus.
Location: Abdomen.
Occupation: Keep self-esteem high.
What to do: Place your hands on your abdomen and, when you inhale, try to fill your belly, not your chest. Breathing the right way increases our oxygen consumption, boosting self-confidence.

CREATIVE AND PASSIONATE

Chakra: Sacral.
Location: pelvis.
Occupation: Stimulate passion and creativity.
What to do: Move your hips left and right, as in belly dancing. This increases circulation and releases stagnant energy.
Bonus: Practicing this movement, you may still be able to burn some localized fat.

SAFE AND INDEPENDENT

Chakra: Source.
Location: Base of the backbone.
Occupation: Have your feet on the ground.
What to do: Walk barefoot on sand or grass. With each step, you stimulate dozens of reflexology points located on the soles of your feet, sending calming signals to this chakra.
