I want to grow old with you

When I think about the future I think about you. I can’t imagine my days without you being present at almost every moment. It may sound crazy, but I can no longer imagine a future without you in it. I want to have your hug to warm me on cold days, your hands to hold when I feel afraid and your kisses to calm me on difficult days.

When I think about the future, I think about the two of us. I think of kids running around the yard on a sunny Sunday afternoon. I think of nights of belly-ache laughs and burnt lunches in failed attempts to follow the recipes we look for on the internet. I think of love, peace, quiet and security.

When I think about the future I think about you. I think of our conversations today being transformed into concrete acts, into real situations. I think about our house and our white wooden fence and the scale we’re going to put on that tree in the backyard. I imagine a lazy dawn, the two of us curled up in the blanket and forgetting that there is a world outside of there, outside of that moment of ours.

When I think about the future, I think about the two of us. I think of a love that grows every day, of fights that will be resolved and of complicated situations that we will go through together. You know that for me these situations wouldn’t exist, but we know that life is an endless surprise. However, even knowing that several things can happen, I want to have the security of knowing that my certainty is you.

When I think about the future, I think about the two of us, old people holding hands. We’ll be feeding the ducks in a square on a Tuesday afternoon. Our children will already be graduated, married and building their own lives, and we will continue to be together, supporting and loving each other every day.
