When the temperature drops, just like us, the animals also feel the consequences. See how to warm your puppy or kitten in winter

protected house

Is your pet in the backyard? So, get a little house the size of it (if money is tight, it’s worth using basins or cardboard boxes). Install it away from wind and rain. And don’t forget to cover the floor with newspaper or cardboard.

warm bed

To warm animals that live indoors, set aside a used blanket. For orphaned puppies, fill a plastic bottle with warm water, cap tightly, and wrap it in a warm cloth. Change the water whenever it cools down.

Appropriate clothes

Skinny, old or short-haired dogs need clothes, yes. If they feel hot, try pieces made from a lighter fabric. Kittens, on the other hand, have less difficulty facing lower temperatures – and felines don’t like the dressed animal fashion!

less bath

In the cold, immunity drops when the fur gets wet, especially in babies and grandparents. Therefore, reduce the frequency of baths. When a shower is unavoidable, choose the hottest time of day, use lukewarm water and dry carefully. To avoid thermal shocks, leave the animal away from the cold for 20 minutes.

extra games

Make your pet run after balls or hunt mice. Animals that don’t exercise feel colder.

More ration

It’s natural for furry appetite to increase in winter, as metabolism accelerates to maintain body temperature. It’s just not worth exaggerating the amount of food, because obesity also brings problems.

donate a blanket

While your pet is sleeping warm, many animals get sick and even die of cold. Cared for by people with a big heart but no money, they live in shelters, cemeteries and even in small houses on the street.

In order to warm up these furry ones, the NGO Adote um Gatinho created the Warm Clothing Campaign for Dogs and Cats, which has already collected more than 2,500 beds, blankets and clothes.

You can collaborate by donating any cloth that your pet no longer uses or by buying a new one, cheaply. Just deliver it to one of the 29 affiliated stations: http://abr.io/campanhadoagasalho.

Those who live outside of São Paulo can look for a non-governmental organization close to their residence.
