WHY DOES THE NOSE CONGESTION?

The reasons that lead the nose to congest are varied – viruses, bacteria or allergies, for example -, but the mechanism is usually the same: the region of the sinuses of the face swells because of inflammation in the local blood vessels. This can cause a runny nose (the famous “runny nose”) or other conditions, such as sore throat and cough.

DOES THE 15 SECOND TECHNIQUE WORK?

A facial massage can have a host of short-term and long-term benefits (such as relieving pain and improving tension in facial muscles), and it’s not surprising that a technique as simple as this one works.

But, before continuing, let’s understand how it works?

With your right hand, place two fingers over your left nostril and “pull” to the right
Place the thumb of the left hand just below the cheekbone and press left and up
Hold the position for 15 minutes and breathe deeply
Do the same on the other side, if necessary.

“This technique uses self-massage to relieve pressure in the sinuses,” James explains to Shape magazine. “When you feel pressure and pain in this area, the breasts and muscles near the nose can feel tighter and tighter. Moving the nose to the side and massaging this area brings more blood flow and circulation to the face. This allows the local musculature to relax, draining the mucus.”

James says he learned the tactic while taking a professional massage course, however, the medical community still needs concrete proof that this technique actually relieves symptoms of sinusitis and rhinitis, for example. Also, the relief is temporary and not permanent. Therefore, it is always interesting to have a medical evaluation to know the exact cause of congestion and the best treatment.

Still, having an immediate relief trick at hand is always good, right?
