How to make a garden using just one square meter

Do you think that gardening is not one of your best skills and that your garden is too small to grow anything other than grass? Today we’re going to show you how professionals and nature lovers can get the most out of small spaces. With our tips and tricks, it will be possible to build a small garden, but rich in colors and nutrients, in addition to enjoying vegetables grown in your own home.

O incredible.club wants to share some very useful tips for you to make the most of a small area of land and enjoy an abundance of fresh vegetables at any time.

1. Choose the right plants

Choose what kind of vegetables and greens you would like to grow in your garden. Cabbage, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, radishes and aromatic herbs are just a few that can be easily planted. If you are a novice gardener, choose plants that don’t need special care and that grow well in your local climate.

It’s a good idea to plant species that can produce many fruits on a single plant. For example, choose cherry tomatoes over their large version, which will ensure a much richer and more flavorful product, but with less effort.

2. Planning and organization

There are almost no restrictions on what to plant, but the garden design is the most important part. It can be an ordinary garden bed or a raised bed. Choose the latter option if you plan to grow edible roots, and make sure the area gets enough sunlight during the day.

Divide the garden bed into segments of the same size. As a general rule, each square meter of land can be divided into 9 or 12 squares. But each species must be planted in its own space, so that all plants can feed without problems and get enough sunlight.

Divide the vegetables you have chosen into 3 groups: plants that grow upright (tomatoes, cucumbers, peas and string beans), large plants that need more space (such as cabbage, cauliflower, eggplant and peppers) and small (such as radishes, carrots, spinach, onions, lettuce and herbs) .

Place the vertical plants in the farthest rows from the segments, the big ones in the middle and the small ones in front. Make sure the front ones are facing the sun most of the day. The main idea of this project is that the vertical plants do not cover or shade the crops that grow in the middle and in the first rows.

One large, upright plant can be placed per square segment as they need a lot of room to feed through their roots. As for the smaller ones, there can be 5 to 6, or even more per segment, depending on the size.

3. Take care of your garden

Vertical plants need a lot of care and attention. It’s a good idea to use wooden poles for tomatoes and trellises or grids made of durable cucumber materials. This will prevent them from falling over each other and will save space. We can also use a type of wood to grow sweet peas.

Take care of fertilization. To facilitate irrigation, a piping system can be used that will distribute the required amount of water and fertilizer in the garden. Another simple way is to use a bottle with small holes, so as not to damage the leaves and plants.

Draw a map of your future garden before you start planting it. This will help plan the distribution of vegetables and herbs. It’s best to change the location of the plants each season to keep the soil with its natural nutrients. If you want to make the most of the soil, replace the peas and beans with tomatoes, and after that, plant lettuce and spinach. Next, replace it with cabbage, and then harvest roots from edible plants.

It’s also a good idea to add a handful of granulated organic fertilizer to each segment of soil when planting.

4. Make the most of the space you have

Even if you don’t have a plot of land in your backyard, you can still build your little garden. You can create it by planting vines or vertical crops next to a fence that serves as a support. If you don’t have room for it, plant some herbs and leafy vegetables in a pot.

5. Get creative

The less space you have, the more creativity it takes to build a garden. You can plant leafy vegetables or herbs under the trees that grow in the backyard or, if you are brave enough to try it, use plastic bottles instead of flower beds🇧🇷 They are small, but you can put enough land in them to grow lettuce, herbs, radishes, and even onions. It is possible to place it on a fence and create a small vertical garden like the one in this photo.

Who said that flower beds are just for that? Try planting some herbs or lettuce in them and surprise your friends and family with a curious landscaping design.

If you don’t have space for a garden, place some potted herbs on your terrace or in your outdoor kitchen.

6. Enjoy the crops
