How to heal frustration?

Surely, at some point in your life you have felt frustrated. When you wanted to achieve something and you haven’t been able to achieve it, when You had a goal and you had an impediment to carrying it out…

It’s normal to feel frustrated. But We must not confuse frustration with defeat. Don’t we feel angry for being frustrated? Do we get anxious? We are sad? It’s normal, but we have to learn to see the positive side. Let’s see what strategies we can follow and what we can do ourselves to heal that frustration that can block us and sink us.

Identify the goals you want to achieve

There are some objectives or goals that you have not yet achieved. It’s harder than it seems, it’s hard to get what we want. That’s not negative. If it costs us something, it will be worth it. When we reach our goal we will feel happier for having achieved it.

Before frustration appears, discover why you can’t achieve what you set out to do. Talk about it and don’t keep your frustration to yourself. Bring it to light! Maybe you are not going on the best path to achieve what you want. Maybe it’s something unattainable and you don’t realize it.. Talking it out can help you.

Look for alternatives

If you have not managed to achieve one goal, look for another. Maybe you propose impossible dreams to comply due to certain circumstances. Find something that is within your means, that you can achieve. It is very important that you feel motivated for it. If you want something, go for it and put in all your effort. If you don’t make it, nothing happens. There will be many more dreams that you can fulfill.

Be realistic with the goals you set. Don’t want impossible things. This will only increase your frustration. Look for realistic alternatives that you can make a reality.

Accept the obstacles

As the proverb says “life is not a bed of roses”. Don’t expect that everything will be easy. It’s better not to be like that. Difficulties and obstacles help us to improve ourselves, to be better. Be positive in the face of obstacles and don’t let these stop you on your way to the goal.

Think that difficulties are opportunities that must be taken advantage of. Not as impediments but as occasions that make us grow and progress.

Think about what you have achieved

Although there are things that resist you, there are surely many others that you have been able to achieve. Think about them so that they give you strength. You have to see that you can’t get everything either, but you can always achieve something and that is positive. You have to have security and self-esteem. You have to believe in yourself.

What you have achieved can also give you clues. Why did you achieve that and not this? What is going wrong? Maybe it can help you open your eyes to what is possible and what is impossible.

Allow yourself to err

Making mistakes is good. Allow let’s learn from them and move forward, otherwise we will only stagnate. Change thoughts of defeat for thoughts of success and never feel guilty for your mistake. That will only make you insecure and, honestly, it is not in your best interest. Security is important to achieve everything you set out to do.

Additionally, we must learn to forgive ourselves for making mistakes. Believe in ourselves, forgive ourselves, start over. These are things we must go through.

Do not expect anything from anyone

Do not idealize anyone and do not place exaggerated expectations on certain people. We are all human, therefore, imperfect. We will be frustrated to see how what we expected from someone is not fulfilled. If we don’t expect anything from anyone we won’t be disappointed. We will be happier and, as a consequence, more positive.

As we have seen, it is possible to overcome frustration or, at least, understand it. It is important to understand what we feel, but instead of rejecting a negative feeling, let’s learn to accept it and get the good out of it. Fight for what you want to achieve. Only those who don’t try really fail. Resist, persist and you will achieve it.

If not, nothing happens. Maybe it wasn’t your chance. Don’t despair. There will be other times when you will get what you want. And above all, never be afraid to try again. Think that it is better to try and fail than to regret not having tried.
