How to connect with your spirituality –

A hyper connected world full of disconnected people

The world has stopped and we have had a unique opportunity to also take a break from autopilot, get some fresh air and rethink our life’s priorities. The current context of the pandemic – which requires care that is already widely recommended – can also be a fresh opportunity to build new and refreshed beginnings at all levels, from the individual to the collective.

And to talk about how, after all, we can connect with our spirituality in practice, I will differentiate concepts and bring some demystifications or important recommendations that I have learned throughout my journey and the knowledge acquired so far.

Spirituality X religion

The understanding of spirituality is subjective and multiple, but not necessarily about a religion: there are religions that bring spirituality and there is spirituality without the path signaled by a religion.

Connecting with our spirituality would be expanding our perception to something greater or an understanding of what permeates and moves our existence, be it a universal energy, the cosmos, unity, creation, what everything is, God or whatever you prefer to call it – no I intend to enter this specific territory of definitions and I also believe that each person must search and walk their own path with freedom, with their own feet and their intuition to discover what resonates and makes sense for them at that moment.

As for the religions themselves, they bring dogmas and belief systems that generally have a linked spirituality – they are institutions that present themselves as bridges to reconnect or reconnect people to a specific spirituality. This can be a path and do well for many people and I’m not making a judgment about it here.

But the connection with our spirituality does not necessarily need to go through the paths signaled by a specific religion – as there are multiple possible ways to connect, and many of them, independently and without barriers. And it is within this bias that I share with you here.

Spirituality X individuality

I believe that individual freedom is fundamental to delve into the path of spirituality, because there is no absolute truth about things and each individual attributes understandings from the perspectives and experiences that he allows himself to experience.

It’s like the trajectory of the hero who walks the world on his own feet and on this journey allows himself to live multiple experiences from different perspectives and returns home with different understandings from the ones he accessed before. I remembered a well-known text by Amyr Klink in which he says that a man needs to travel, and when I reread it, I imagined that from the perspective of spirituality it might make sense:

A man needs to travel. On your own, not through stories, pictures, books or TV. He needs to travel by himself, with his eyes and feet, to understand what is his. To one day plant your own trees and give them value. Knowing the cold to enjoy the heat. And the opposite. Feel the distance and homelessness to be well under your own roof. A man needs to travel to places he doesn’t know to break this arrogance that makes us see the world as we imagine it, and not simply as it is or could be. That makes us professors and doctors of what we haven’t seen, when we should be students, and simply go and see.

6 things you need to know about spirituality

1. Spirituality does not have a destination, it is the journey itself

It’s not about a point you reach, and from that place, you become an enlightened person and that’s it – forget about it. It is something that is endlessly built, walking closer and closer to the middle path. A tenuous line that balances all polarities, feelings, challenges and trials; the way we face challenges, make decisions and lead our own lives.

2. Be open to new knowledge and to deconstruct what you know

Allow yourself to step out of the box and discover new territories that can often bump into beliefs you’ve carried so far. In a practical way, the tip here is: study about spirituality, look for a certain logic and good interlocutors on the subject, since a good curation helps a lot to filter and makes all the difference in understanding. It’s not just about meditating and waiting for something transcendent to come – but taking action, rolling up your sleeves and seeking to expand your knowledge, and naturally, your consciousness.

3. Not everything makes sense to everyone and that’s okay

If we are plural people and see different perspectives of the same sphere, not everything makes sense to everyone. One subject may interest you, another not so much. Or maybe it is not the best subject for your present moment, it may be that the information consulted is not reliable or even that you have a little resistance and beliefs that you need to break down little by little.

And because everything is so diverse and subjective, We don’t need to impose knowledge or force our truth on anyone.. Also, when you are faced with something that cuts down on your freedom, that is full of constraints and rigidity or that brings the vibration of fear in the speech, run away because it is usually a trap, see? It has to be light and add to your life with coherence and love.

4. Acceptance of the impermanence of life

Surrender to the experience of life and accept the impermanence of things. Insisting on staying in the comfort zone can prevent us from learning more and maturing on the journey.

Everything is changing and will change even more. Wanting to control our life and its surroundings can be a huge waste of energy and effort, because that way we would be paddling against the flow, and that goes for everything. Sometimes, life just waits for us to let go and give up that control, to give ourselves lightly and confidently to what is already designed for us.

5. It’s an inside-out movement

It is natural to have moments of distress when we look for answers or the meaning of things. Although many times we only look outside and forget that the clarity, lucidity and fulfillment of what we lack can be accessed from within. And we spend our lives designing careers, realities, conditioning our happiness to something, or even outsourcing responsibilities, when in fact, we should be masters of our own history.

When we allow ourselves to really look inside, we deconstruct beliefs, limiting and repetitive patterns, heal our wounded child, forgive our parents, release our feelings of guilt and fear. In this self-knowledge, we are getting closer to who we are.

If our interior is in harmony, our world around us also resonates. with him for frequency compatibility. Therefore, we need to take good care of the mind and body as an essential temple to more easily access the depths of the spirit, which is an integrated part of us with more wisdom, which gives us better insights into life and touches our intuition.

6. Spirituality in practice

Reorganize a routine and build gradual habits that enhance you and help preserve your energy and further develop your spirituality. This way life becomes more and more balanced, light and filled with meaning when you observe all areas in an integrated way.

As everything is a matter of balance, when implementing a change, over time it becomes a natural habit – remember that everyone has their time and their measure of focus and discipline, without charging so much for it.
