How are some actors from “The Wonder Years” 33 years after their debut

In 1988, Incredible Years premiered, a series that follows Kevin Arnold, a boy who grows up in a typical American family in the 60s. Alongside his teenage friends, he faces the difficult adventure of growing up. It’s amazing that 33 years have passed since its release and its characters still remain in our hearts. That’s why we ask ourselves how the actors who played them are today.

Today the awesome.club shows how eight actors in this series are doing and brings a bonus very special at the end of the article.

1. Fred Savage as Kevin Arnold

Fred Savage played Kevin Arnold, who we watched grow for five years. Before joining the cast of the series, the actor played the role of the grandson in The Princess Bride (1987). Savage continues to dedicate himself to acting and has lent his voice to the Family Guy animated series from 2009 to today.

2. Jason Hervey as Wayne Arnold

Kevin’s older brother Wayne was played by Jason Hervey, who continues to act, although he has also devoted himself to producing and writing. Among his latest performances, which date back to 2011, is TNA Impact!, a series in which he plays himself.

3. Josh Saviano as Paul Pfeiffer

It was Josh Saviano who was in charge of giving life to Paul, the friendly kid with braces and Kevin’s best friend. Saviano stopped acting after that series; however, he returned to television on five occasions on the sitcom Law & Order between 2014 and 2016.

4. Danica McKellar as Winnie Cooper

5. David Schwimmer as Michael

Yes, that’s him! Karen’s boyfriend, Michael, was played by none other than David Schwimmer, aka Ross, from Friends. Schwimmer hasn’t stopped acting since Friends ended and his most recent participation was in the series Intelligence, since 2020.

6. Olivia d’Abo as Karen Arnold

Olivia d’Abo played Karen, Kevin’s older sister. The actress did not give up acting, as she lent her voice to the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. She is currently working on her latest project, Staycation, to be released in 2022.

7. Robert Picardo as Coach Ed Cutlip

Ed Cutlip, Kevin’s school coach, was played by Robert Picardo, who worked on the series Star Trek: Voyager between 1995 and 2001. Currently, he continues to participate in projects, including Space Command, a series that premiered in 2020.

8. Dan Lauria as Jack Arnold

Jack, the father of Kevin, Karen and Wayne, was played by Dan Lauria, who continues to work as an actor. MacGyver and Amor Com Date Marcada are some of his most recent appearances.

Bonus: “For those who didn’t know…”

Kevin (Fred Savage) and Winnie (Danica McKellar), at one point in the series, grow apart. But the reality is that this happened on purpose due to Danica’s rapid growth, who grew taller than Savage. The producers considered that, at that moment, the couple did not look good on screen. Therefore, the characters’ reconciliation took place when Savage reached the same height as his partner. Anyone who has watched the series knows that the story is narrated by the voice of an adult Kevin. So, to make Savage’s reactions more natural, there was a real narrator on set reading this adult Kevin’s lines. Savage’s appearances in Vice Versa and The Princess Bride caught the attention of the producers of The Wonder Years, who knew these two films and were looking for an actor for the role of Kevin. It was enough to watch a small part of Vice Versa to hire the young man. Savage is the only actor in the series who appears in every episode.
In almost every scene in which the Arnold family is having dinner, some family member mentions a dish made with potatoes. It is never said exactly where the story takes place. Neil Marlens, the show’s creator, wanted it to be set in Long Island, New York, but the channel that produced it, ABC, opted for an unnamed location. However, there are indications that it is located in the suburbs of Los Angeles. For example, license plates are from the State of California, and the driver’s license has a California seal and zip code. After completing the series, Fred Savage’s mother was left with the Jets’ football jacket New York, which Kevin wore during the first season. In 2014, Savage announced his intention to donate her to the Smithsonian Institution. The role of Becky Slater, one of Kevin’s first crushes, was played by Danica McKellar’s sister, Crystal. The role was created especially for her, as Crystal was one of the first choices to play Winnie.
