Ho’oponopono: what it is, how it works and how to practice it

I wanted to feel more calm, balanced, happy and, with that, deal better with everyday problems. I knew that if I could keep myself with a more serene look, I could turn the difficult moments into challenges. To achieve this goal, I decided to try the Hawaiian technique called Ho’oponopono.

Many consider it a miracle, but, in fact, the results only depend on our determination to accept and let go of preconceived ideas.

Next, we’ll see more about the Ho’oponopono technique, which can be done in the form of a mantra, with the repetition of the four “magic” phrases, or also with the Ho’oponopono Prayer and the Ho’oponopono Meditation. In the end, I propose a super simple step-by-step for you to experience the results.

How Ho’oponopono came to be

Around 2006, if I’m not mistaken, I received an email that spoke of this innovative proposal for self-healing. It was a text by the writer Joe Vitale, who at the same time wrote the book “Limite Zero”.

He told about the Hawaiian psychiatrist Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len, PhD, who, when placed in charge at a hospital of an entire ward of insane and criminal patients, decided to use his Hawaiian knowledge and ended up curing them all, which resulted in the closure of the hospital itself. The doctor studied the prisoner’s file and then worked on himself in order to see how he had created that person’s illness. That is, the specialist evaluated which aspects of that patient he recognized or knew in his memories. If the specialist achieved improvements, feeling even more aware, the patient also improved. Hew Len says that we should constantly clean up life situations, because we don’t know exactly where they came from, and the ideal is to reach the zero point where everything is neutral.

There are several forms that are given in the seminars he teaches, and many are confidential, but the most popular are the phrases that we can say over and over again, addressing the Divine, Self, Higher Self… or whatever name we want to give it:

“I love you.” I am really sorry.” Forgive me.” “Thanks.”

This is Ho’oponopono that is talked about so much today – the results in many cases make Ho’oponopono magical!

What is Ho’oponopono

But what does Ho’oponopono mean? The technique is based on the idea that everything in our lives is our absolute responsibility, we can only recognize what we already know. That is, everything in our world is of our creation.

The fact that we are healing a part of ourselves, consequently heals everything around us, as we look beyond intentions and address ourselves to the origin – to the state where there is no limit.

As soon as I read this concept I thought it was quite out of the ordinary, but at the same time, it felt like something about it made sense to me. I tentatively started to familiarize myself with the idea of 100% responsibility.

Even so, it was hard to accept, as healing mentally ill criminals was too much for my head. If the story was really true, I had to know more. I kept myself interested, studying and practicing.

I always believed that my thoughts could materialize things in my life, but there was something about this story that still didn’t connect with my limited information.

Placing the blame on someone else is much easier, I already knew that. Now it remained to understand how to exempt her from her own choice.

How it works

Over the years, I began to realize that taking responsibility for the things that happened to me made some situations much easier, in addition to bringing me a feeling of peace, respect for others, acceptance and a lot of self-knowledge.

If I am responsible for what I see and how I see people in situations, I am also responsible for what I am seeing them experience.

This thought is the challenge that changes everything, opens the mind and paralyzes prejudices. Read it many times and understand. We all live all the time from memories, not from inspiration, which is contact with emptiness or the zero/neutral point.

When looking at the charts of those patients, Dr. Len just kept saying, over and over again, “I love you. I am really sorry. Forgive me. Thank you” – it doesn’t matter which order we say it in.

“Is that all?”, you ask me. And I say to him, “That’s all.”

It turns out that loving is the best way to improve ourselves and our world.

Does it make any sense? If the answer was “no”, avoid giving up. Although it is difficult to understand, this is a precious concept for you to really change everything in your life for the better.

The truth is this: if you take complete responsibility for everything you look at, hear, taste, touch, or experience, simply by being in your life, you not only can, but should become aware of which thoughts are toxic.

All repetitive behaviors from past memories that cause negative situations lead you to experience illness, conflicts, depression, rejection and much more.

Everything in your world exists as projections coming out of your subconscious. Until about five years old, we receive information without questioning it and mean everything without discernment, just as it was possible at that time.

We are just children acquiring completely new experiences and keeping everything in the unconscious.

After that, we started a endless sequence of repetitions of assimilated patternsstrengthening them even more over the years.

It is this information that must be sent to the void in order to release it from the subconscious mind to the Greater Intelligence.

Ho’oponopono prayer

In addition to repeating the Mantra Ho’oponopono, which are the four phrases “I’m sorry. Forgive me. I love you. I am grateful”, there is also the complete Ho’oponopono Prayer, which is the version created by the main Master of Self Identity Ho’oponopono, Mrs. Morrnah Nalamaku Simeona, with whom Dr. Hew Len worked for many years.

“Divine Creator, Father, Mother, Son, all in One.

If I, my family, my relatives and ancestors, offend your family, relatives and ancestors, in thoughts, facts or actions, from the beginning of our creation to the present, we ask for your forgiveness.

Let it clear, purify, release and cut all memories, blockages, negative energies and vibrations etc.Transmute these unwanted energies into pure light.

It’s done.”

Listen to the guided Ho’oponopono audio below. If you say this Ho’oponopono Prayer taking each word to the truth in your heart, it will be of great value in our process of maturation and self-healing.

It all seems really simple. And is ! We are in the habit of complicating things, but here simplicity is what counts, as it is difficult to achieve.

How to practice Ho’oponopono Meditation

Meditation is putting focus, mental silence, developing the ability to be present without emotional influence. For this reason, the Ho’oponopono philosophy has been known as gratitude meditation.

Forgiveness and love naturally lead us to gratitude.

Ho’oponopono is a meditation that has been used in Hawaii for over 3,000 years. Priests used this practice with society in order to solve everyday problems between people. It was done with the entire community present and active.

On these occasions, people became aware of the conflicts that existed in that environment and repeated the phrases together. With each one realizing their self-responsibility in the face of the aspects of the situation that had arisen, the community ended up benefiting and everyone was cured of internal negative memories and programs.

“The problem is not in others, it is in you, and to change them, you are the one who has to change”, said Mrs. Mornah.

This is a reality that is often difficult to swallow. But accepting this proposal is the best it can do for you.

Difference between Ho’oponopono for women and men

Finally, something that people wonder and want to know: is there a difference between Ho’oponopono for women and Ho’oponopono for men?

I like to reinforce that women are a strong presence when we talk about Ho’oponopono. In my lectures or in study groups, they are the majority, but there is interest among men too. I find it curious, because women question more, and men just try to assimilate the information.

This reminds me of a study group from years ago. We studied for months all the guidelines of Dr. Hew Len. We did experiments.

We experience Ho’oponopono for women like the original Priests. It was incredible, each experience, each day, and then I proposed that we call a man who worked with philosophy to show us the male gaze.

I called Carlos Humber (Reiki teacher) for an experience. And for me it was a big and pleasant surprise. Her approach was much more feminine than mine.

I always talk about why, how, where, and he just brought up the faith, the intuition, the surrender.

My gaze was male and his gaze was female for the same subject. We were highly complementary to the group. This event made me look more closely at my feminine, to balance things out.

Therefore, there is no more efficient or less efficient, male or female, just different focuses of the same subject. When men and women understand that they are complementary and that in each one there is a man and a woman, everything on the planet will be more balanced.

Think about it! Ho’oponopono is a philosophy of life for everyone.

Ho’oponopono meditation: when to do it

The Ho’oponopono Meditation or simply the repetition of the four phrases of the Ho’oponopono mantra must be done all the timebecause we are always making sense of things with our memories and as we have already seen, this limits us to repetitive situations and never to the new.

A Ho’oponopono meditation in the morning it can bring us the commitment to be observant of our choices and emotions throughout the day. The more we repeat, the more we access the unconscious to change what we are going to attract.

And the Ho’oponopono for sleep can put us in a feeling well suited to falling asleep: gratitude. Listening to the Ho’oponopono Meditation at night is very productive when we need to change negative situations in our lives, such as low self-esteem, lack of money and even health problems.

If you want to buy a Ho’oponopono plaque with the four phrases or images that refer you to the meditation of gratitude, you will wake up or go to sleep reinforcing the acceptance and letting go of preconceived ideas, and intensifying the process of maturation and self-healing.

Step by step

Don’t want to understand, ask, determine or have control of anything. Just do it, believe it, try it, really try to live in total surrender to love and the Divine Presence in you.

Recognize that you are 100% responsible for a situation, even when it is difficult. Be humbly aware that you and the other have the same characteristics, no matter the percentage of it. Remember if…
