«Grimorium Verum»: the grimoire of truth.

Grimorium Verum is an 18th century grimoire attributed to a certain Alibeck the Egyptian, who wrote it in 1517 following the magical doctrine of King Solomon.

Its name, Grimorium Verum, means “The grimoire of truth”, a truth that would replace the classic hermeticism of other prohibited books with a kind of ceremonial opening where the secrets of magic are accessible to all.

Very little is known with certainty about the Grimorium Verum. It is not, as his preface states, the translation of an older work that has been lost. Its first editions appeared in France and Italy almost at the same time. The scholar Arthur Edward Waite discovered that the antiquity of the Grimorium Verum was notably fraudulent. In his 1911 work, The Book of Ceremonial Magic, he dates it to the first half of the 18th century, and maintains that the book is nothing more than an amorphous pamphlet that groups together different spells of different kinds. cultures without a clear order or typical of a work focused on ceremonial magic.

But the true success of the Grimorium Verum is not found within its pages, but in the omissions that other compilers have deemed appropriate when they mentioned the book, giving it a mysterious character. SL MacGregor Mathers, founder of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, incorporated some passages from the Grimorium Verum in his manuscript version of The Key of King Solomon, but conceals others, noting that he has recipes for making magical seals and rings of extraordinary power and effectiveness.

The remarkably questionable studies of MacGregor Mathers indicate that the Grimorium Verum is not a fraudulent book, but rather a late and poor copy of a work translated from Hebrew by the Jesuit Plaingiere in 1517. Furthermore, he maintains that the Grimorium Verum holds the key to summon and control the 18 main demons of hell through the 18 secret signs to which they must submit.

Beyond the controversies surrounding the Grimorium Verum, much of its knowledge is accessible to playful reading, that is, outside the neurotic sphere of prodigy conjurers. Below we leave you a version to read online.
