Auricular visagism (ear visagism) is the name we give to the analysis of holes for earrings and piercings in the region, in order to maintain the harmonic result. According to body piercer Agnes Ordani, by Studio Belltrix, specialized in this type of hole, the important thing is to bet on a project that, mainly, translates the style and personality of each person. But it goes far beyond that!

HEALTH COMES FIRST

“The ‘ear holes’, as I usually say, must be very well evaluated before they are made. Each ear has an anatomy, and ignoring it for aesthetic reasons can even cause health problems”, says Agnes, who says that she has already seen a client with a gangrenous ear area, due to a perforation that interrupted the blood supply.

Her experience for 15 years as a surgical instrumentator at Albert Einstein Hospital taught her to always analyze the disposition of vessels and nerves before any cutting or drilling.

“One should also take into account the acupuncture points. This is super important when drilling. In the past, acupuncture and ear piercing were ‘enemies’, acupuncturists didn’t like it when people had a lot of holes and told them to take them out. Nowadays, they are areas that work hand in hand. That’s because when you pierce an acupuncture point, you deactivate that reception. For those who have migraines, for example, one of the recommended treatments is to even place a jewel on the migraine acupuncture point, to deactivate it. With the visagismo, we also do this work”, he says.

In addition to helping with health and correcting the level of the holes, the technique makes it possible to play with the sizes of the earrings, forming from the most delicate sets to the most daring and dramatic ones. I, who always wanted to have an ear with a lot of personality through jewelry, loved the result of the work that Agnes did on me, taking into account my style but also my health — there was a puncture that I couldn’t do, for example, and I wouldn’t know it without this analysis of hers, if I did it in any studio concerned only with aesthetics.

My original earlobe piercing, on the other hand, which was done when I was still a baby, was analyzed by Agnes and what turned out was that it was done above an acupuncture point: the headache point. As she explained, this means that you turn off that receptor and you don’t suffer as much from it, which makes sense because I very rarely get headaches, and even when I do, they’re so mild they don’t even need meds.

For the time being, my pieces are more discreet because, for piercing, it is preferable to opt for jewels with a straight stem, which facilitate healing.

They must also be made of titanium, the same material used in surgical screws, for example. “Since it is a material that is accepted by the body without any problems, the organism only has to recover from the perforation made, without worrying about whether it accepts or expels the foreign body”, says Agnes.

Now, it is time to wait for complete healing, with constant monitoring by Agnes, who asks that, at least once a week, send photos via Whatsapp, so that she can follow the recovery and continue giving guidance to always keep her health in the first place.
