Doing physical activity becomes more enjoyable when we have good company. Have you ever thought about working out together with who you like? There are different exercises to do as a couple, whether at home, in the garden or wherever you prefer. Put on a comfortable outfit, call your love and get ready to get your body moving!

10 exercises to do as a couple

1. Abdominal: nothing like a classic

When thinking about exercises to do at home, the abdominal is one that can’t be missed. In the double version, the pair must lie on the floor – as shown in the photo above – and clap their hands each time they climb. Another way to work out your abs is with your legs raised and the couple’s feet touching.

2. Burn calories playing ball

The medicine ball is an accessory widely used in functional exercises. However, you can use a volleyball to work out with your partner. Face each other and throw the ball. It is worth making the game more challenging: crouch and play, jump and play, etc. It’s best to do ball exercises outdoors – or at least get the breakable objects out of the room.

3. Plank: it looks simple, but it’s not

The plank is an isometric exercise: the body is static. However, no one said it’s easy, huh? On your stomach, place your elbows and forearms on the floor. Stretch your legs and lift your body, contracting your abs and keeping your spine straight. Your partner will do the same, but using you as support. Stay for 30 seconds and switch positions.

4. Stretching is necessary

The cool thing about stretching in pairs is that you can go a little further in the movements. Sit with your legs apart and throw your body forward. Your partner will gently press your back towards the floor. Count to 10 and switch moves. This same stretch can also be done with your legs crossed.

5. Leg press without device

The leg press is a common piece of equipment in gyms and is used to work out legs. At home, use your partner as a human weight! Lie on the floor, on your back, with a straight spine – a non-slip mat is a good choice. Bring both legs together towards the chest. Your partner should support their body on their feet. Extend your legs as far as you can and then retract. Do three sets of 12 repetitions.

6. Open rowing with elastic band

The elastic band is one of those accessories that is worth having at home, you know? Versatile, it allows different exercises to be done, both solo and accompanied. In pairs, it is possible to do, among other movements, the open row. Ask your partner to hold the end of the elastic band. Pull the ends of the elastic until close to your shoulders, with your elbows facing out and not going beyond your shoulders. Return to the starting position.

7. Acroyoga: for those who have balance

Perhaps you have already seen couples practicing acroyoga on Instagram. It’s a combination of yoga and acrobatics, with different movements. One of the partners is the base, while the other is the flyer. In addition to toning the body, it is a real confidence exercise. One of the more traditional movements is lifting the partner with the legs (bird position).

8. Squats for beginners

Here the exercise is done simultaneously by the pair. Stand facing your partner, standing with your feet apart (in line with your shoulders). Hold hands and project your hips back, bending your legs – almost as if you were going to sit in an imaginary chair. Return to the starting position. Do as many repetitions as you need. For beginners, 3 sets of 10 repetitions is a good number.

9. Turbo squat

Has the traditional squat become easy for you? It’s time to move to sumo squats with an upgrade. In this version, one of the members of the duo is used as a weight – just like in this photo. Keep your legs wider and your feet pointing out. Don’t try to repeat it at home if you don’t have any exercise experience, as someone could end up hurting themselves.

10. The good old push-up

The push-up is a great exercise to strengthen your shoulders, arms, and chest. To make the exercise even more challenging, one person in the couple does the push-ups while the other lies on top, creating extra weight. If it gets too difficult, it’s worth putting your knees on the floor.
