Emotional stability: is it possible? – GOOD SHAPE

These days, something that may be lacking is this emotional balance which is going far beyond stability, isn’t it? Therefore, today’s text is very special because it will bring practical tools for you to make big changes in your life!

This is the last content about the SPIREthe model of comprehensive well-being of Wholebeing Institute. In previous weeks, we talked about the dimensions: spiritual, physical, intellectual, relational and today, we will talk about the emotional!

But after all, what is understood as emotional? It’s about accepting all emotions as they are and seeking more resilience and positivity in everyday life! So calm down, we are not talking about a person who knows how to control all emotions, but who allows himself to feel them and seeks to live a lighter life!

Today we will have the presence of an extremely special guest! Henrique Bueno, the CEO and Founder of Wholebeing Institute Brasil, Brazilian reference in Positive Psychology and specialist in happinessalso known as an extremely loving and welcoming person, my teacher and great inspiration!

For Henry, the emotional dimension of SPIRE is the one that regulates all the others. During his life, for many years he felt like a fish out of water, he did not feel he belonged to the place where he worked, he was very anxious, worried, compared himself and saw many defects in himself and in others. He didn’t like being like that, but he didn’t know how to live a different life. (And you, do you feel that way too?)

Until then, he avoided feeling! He avoided looking at his feelings, after all he knew there were many things there that bothered him and even felt angry with himself for thinking it was wrong. He left the executive world, but without making any other life changes, he continued to feel the same way. Until something great made him change!

It was through Positive Psychology and a conversation with Tal Ben-Shahar that your life took another direction! Henrique began to put into practice two of Tal’s great teachings:

Allow yourself to be human (welcoming yourself and not charging yourself like a machine, making it possible to welcome others too)
Seeking to live a life with more positivity and gratitude

Sounds pretty simple, doesn’t it? However, when taken seriously, these two things bring significant changes to our lives! And, according to him, “It was liberating to internalize that I am human and to be able to feel that I can build a capacity to choose action, without automatic reactions”.

Other techniques that Henrique implemented in his life were:

Write an emotion diary
Take a picture of something beautiful every day
Take care of yourself first, so you can take care of others around you
Seek to look at a more positive outlook on life
Accept your own limits
Retell your story in a positive way
Be less judgmental of yourself and others
Putting the 4 P’s into practice for “negative” feelings: pause (breathing 3x deeply, realize what you are feeling and where in your body it is), allow yourself to be human (tell yourself that everything is fine), perspective (think if you’ve felt this way before, how it went, how long it took and what it means in your life, 5 years from now), flat (plan how you will handle this situation)

Nowadays, Henrique manages to maintain all these practices automatically and intuitively, but for that, he demanded constancy and a lot of time writing and perfecting himself in the techniques. “We become good at what we practice! It may sound silly, but it all works,” he says. With time, everything gets easier and lighter, just try!

Now it’s up to you! How about putting all these practices into action and being able to experience a more stable emotional state, just because you accept yourself, welcome yourself, seek positivity and resilience in your life?!
