‘Cause love is simple

What I like most about love is that it doesn’t need greatness to happen. We just need to be attentive and have the ability to see it in the subtlety of life. Because love has nothing to do with the charms of books or the stories of soap operas, it happens even far from the spotlight. Love is more like that snuggle after a tiring day at work. Love is looking, it’s hug, it’s smell, it’s affection and it’s kiss. It’s feeling supported and safe even when everything seems to be lost. It is peace, freedom and zeal. It’s protection, wanting well and being careful. It’s wanting close, and missing you when you’re far away. It is understanding that distance does not separate, but increases intensity. It’s knowing that it’s not a feeling, but a choice. It’s choosing the other even after fighting. It’s fighting, feeling angry, but dying to talk again.

Love even has to do with butterflies in the belly, however, we need to understand that this is not what sustains the relationship. To love someone is to value moments, to make moments happen. It’s disconnecting from everything and stopping for a while to laugh until your belly hurts. It’s tickling and eating brigadeiro de pot. It’s seeing beauty in the midst of flaws. It’s knowing the flaws and loving anyway. It’s not giving up just because you don’t want the other not to give up on us. It’s fighting and going to the end, even when things seem impossible to go right. Because real love doesn’t give up that easy. Love is insistent, patient and kind. Never jealous, passes away from pride and does not sink into vanity. For those who love cannot be selfish, rude or hold a grudge. Love will never rejoice in injustice. Love is eternal.

And love can be any way you want as long as it’s true. It can have color, smell, taste and desire. It can be up close and even from afar, it just can’t lie. And you know what, I’ve been building a love like that first for myself. Because indifference is born in the inability to have reciprocal love. If I don’t love myself, I can’t love the other. If I don’t understand what love is, I can’t surrender. That’s why love requires seriousness and a little more surrender. To have love, you have to give yourself. And in giving it is impossible not to hurt. But love is also healing. And my wish is that we hurt ourselves a lot, until we get hurt, until we heal.
