Are dried fruits more fattening than fresh ones? – GOOD SHAPE

Yes. “In the process of dehydration, they lose water. This causes the fructose (natural fruit sugar) to become concentrated, which can even triple the calories”, explains Carolina Furlani Baliere, a nutritionist from Muriaé (MG). A fresh fig, for example, has 47 calories, and a dried one, 171. But dehydrated fruits offer positive points: they have more fiber and antioxidant substances, compared to fresh ones. In addition, they last longer and are compact, being practical snack options. In order not to disturb the diet, the nutritionist advises consuming them in small portions (up to three units in each snack) and always accompanied by a lean protein (skimmed yogurt or light cheese) or good fat (Brazil nuts, walnuts or almonds ). The objective is to reduce the speed with which fructose is released in the organism, reducing the risk of dried fruit getting fat.
