Am I living in automatic mode? – GOOD SHAPE

Do you find yourself driving without noticing the way, repeating patterns and not realizing it, the day is over, not acting intentionally, not living in the present moment, feeling forgotten or unable to appreciate the little things around you? If you said yes to most of these items, you are living in the automatic mode!

Now you might be wondering if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, and hey, it depends! Thinking about the routine, actually being in the automatic it helps us to “take care of” the demands, makes our life work without thinking too much. However, in the long run this becomes unsustainable and very harmful, after all, we can become very anxiouslosing contentment and the joy of living.

So if you are only concerned with your life in a short period, continue on automatic, but if you want to have a quality of life in the long term, I invite you to read more and learn tools to live with conscience!

According to Ellen Langer, a leading Harvard researcher, “living in the automatic mode makes us sick”. She even created a term opposite to Mindfulness, called Mindlessness, which is precisely this automatic life, full of stress and illness that we see a lot in everyday life.

It is already a fact that leading life in a hectic way, without conscious breaks, without appreciation and joys, can lead us to a burnout, and precisely because of this, we need to avoid going into automatic mode all the time, turning our attention to the here and now! If you want to know more about these topics, we’ve talked several times here at Column therapy and happiness about anxiety and burnout.

If we manage to increase our presence, seek emotional balance and create micro moments of positivity in our days, we will increase our productivity, health and vitality. So how about being 1% more present today?

I invite you to realize yourself, right now! How are you feeling? Is there any part of your body that is sore? Are there any parts that are really relaxed? What are your plans for today? How do you feel as you imagine your day?

Breathe deeply through your nose and exhale through your mouth, do this at least 3 times, deeply and see how you feel afterwards! Breathing can provide relief and great rest!
