We spend most of our lives looking for the right woman, yet when we find her, we hesitate. We fail to take the necessary step before we can call it our own.

Exactly what this step means can vary between couples, as it does at different stages of any relationship. You’d think that once you’ve made that kind of commitment, the next commitment you’d need to make would be easier — but that’s usually not the case.

If you still haven’t decided to call your girl your girlfriend, say you love her, ask her to live with you or call her your wife, these are the decisions you inevitably need to make.

Hesitation is not your friend.

Of course, you need to think hard enough about these decisions, but you should never hesitate for no apparent reason; a real man does not do that.

A real man makes difficult decisions because he knows those decisions have to be made. A real man doesn’t hesitate when he finds the right woman, because:

He realizes how lucky he is.

A real man is a man of experience; he’s been through failed relationships and met enough wrong women that when he finds the right woman, he’s sure he’s found her.

He doesn’t hesitate because — as far as he’s concerned — he’s just won the lottery, and what man is he waiting to claim the prize?

Why should he wait to tell her how much she means to him? He doesn’t see any sense in it.

Luck doesn’t last forever and he’ll feel the need to grab it before another man comes between them.

With billions of people on this planet, finding someone you believe you can share your life with is surprisingly rare.

Like lightning that does not strike twice in the same place, neither does he want to roll the dice and hope for luck again.

He’s mature enough to accept a compromise.

It’s not that he’s not afraid of commitment — most people are — it’s that he’s ready to jump on the bandwagon. He is prepared to make all the necessary trade-offs because he believes his woman deserves that and more.

He may have some fear of commitment, but he certainly doesn’t shy away from it; he faces his fears — just like a man. Likewise, he is more than ready for any commitment without any scary thoughts.

He might want nothing more than to settle down and love his wife with all his heart. He may be ready to dedicate his whole life to her. Whether or not he’s afraid of commitments, as long as he’s ready to dedicate himself exclusively to her, he’s a real man.

He wants her to realize how magnificent she is and how much she means to him.

Most men, however confused the reason, believe that a woman understands what she means to them. Unfortunately, the opposite more often than not appears to be true.

Unless she’s some sort of psychic, you need to use your words—and your actions. You have to be there for her, tell her you love her and show her how much she means to you.

A real man realizes this and, moreover, realizes how important it is for his wife to realize that he loves her.

You might think that hesitation goes unnoticed, but in reality, it often does incredible damage.

He’s afraid of losing her.

It is true. A real man is afraid of losing the woman he loves and is not afraid to admit it. When you meet the right woman, you must be afraid of losing her, whether it’s to someone else or to one of life’s many tragedies. You must be afraid.

She has become his life, and if he is to lose her, he will lose himself—the person she helped him to be. She is as much a part of him as he is a part of himself.

He believes she deserves the world, and is prepared to give it to her.

He wants to be the one who takes her to new places, new foods, wines and adventures. He wants to be first in as many experiences as possible because, just as she is part of him, he wants to be part of her.

He wants her to one day look back and remember all her fantastic adventures and smile — that’s all he cares about. He is interested in making her smile, in making her feel good about herself, about her life, about her experiences and her decisions.

Deciding who you should spend the rest of your life with is arguably the most important decision a person can make in their life.
