A Russian blogger shared her top tricks to do well when posing for photos.

It often happens that we take a picture and we don’t like how we come out. Because of this, many times we even start to consider ourselves not very photogenic. However, the art of posing for the camera can certainly be learned by everyone. So much so that Russian blogger Oksana Prokopenko, who has had her Instagram account for a few years, often shares her tricks to look good in photos. And, of course, she also points out the most common mistakes when clicking.

We, from awesome.club, we’ve been following Oksana’s tips for a long time, who has nearly 800,000 followers on Instagram. And with her permission, we are ready to pass on to our readers some of the main tricks shared by the blogger in her profile. Check out!

1. Avoid photos taken from above

A photo taken from above visually shortens the legs and torso, leaving the subject looking fuller than they actually are. It’s better to ask the photographer to take the photo from an angle slightly below the line of the model’s face. Accessories always make it easier when posing for photos, as you don’t have to think about where to put your hands. You can put one hand in your pocket and hold a bag with the other, as in the photo on the right.
Don’t forget about posture and your facial expression.

2. The position of the legs influences a lot

People often write to me saying that I have long and thin legs, but that depends a lot on the pose and the angle of the photo. I purposely did not change the layout of the hands to show the difference in the position of the legs. Never support your weight directly on both legs, better to do it on the member that is farthest from the camera🇧🇷 A lot of people don’t understand the point of standing on their toes with their free leg, but I believe everyone can see a colossal difference in the pictures above.

3. Best to avoid facing the camera

Facing the camera adds 3 to 5 kg to the appearance. Try to stand a little to the side when posing for the photo. Never hold your arm outstretched with your hand closed or place your hand on your thigh. To make your legs look longer and thinner, slightly bend the leg closest to the camera.
Best not to push the hips forward, as this makes the appearance more robust. You can pull it back and tilt your head slightly to the side.
If you are facing the camera with your legs positioned side by side or at the same distance from the photographer, you end up adding a few pounds to your appearance anyway, as well as shortening your legs and making them thicker, as in the photo on the left. Better to position yourself sideways or, at the very least, gently turn your body to one side. Do not pose symmetrically with your hands, as in the photo on the left. Better to leave one of them at least a little lower than the other, as I did on the right.

4. Remember facial expressions and smile

Don’t smile with your lips closed, as in the photo on the left, as this does not look natural. After all, in life no one smiles without showing their teeth.
Don’t pout, this trend is already is outdated🇧🇷

5. A very common mistake: keeping one hand pressed against the body

Such a stance makes the hand is blurred and look huge, as everything closer to the camera ends up being slightly enlarged. Furthermore, try not to cover your face with your hands, better leave them free, as in the photo on the right.

6. Better not leave your legs together, so you don’t run the risk of looking like you have two sausages instead

Try to position your legs in such a way that there is space between them. Turning the body slightly to the side makes us as lean as possible. by resting one of his hands on his head so that the fingers are visible, and putting the other in his pants pocket.

7. When posing for photos, you should draw a letter “S” with your body — that way, beautiful photos are guaranteed

Do not forget that hands and legs must be visible, otherwise the impression can be created that one of them is missing. A very important detail that you need to consider during a photo shoot is the position of the chin. The best option is always to raise it, so as not to have a double chin, as in the photo on the left. But we shouldn’t overdo it: the nostrils should not be visible. Try experimenting with your hair. If it’s long, sometimes it’s better to clip it to make the photo more sophisticated.
Girls, first of all, always keep your spine straight and try to tilt your lower back a little. Don’t hide your neck. Raise your head a little and don’t forget the facial expression.

8. Avoid leaving your knees or elbows facing the camera

Choose to leave your knees and elbows turned to the side and thus avoid an appearance that is too simple. Lengthen your neck, push your chin forward, shoulders back and straighten your bust. Posture is a must for any model. Never squint at a photo. If the sun starts to make it difficult to see, close your eyes and then open them all at once, at the time of the photo. To stretch your neck, you can turn on your side and slightly relax the shoulder closest to the camera.

9. When posing seated, follow some rules

A very important rule is to sit on the edge of the chair or armchair, so that the your legs don’t spread out on the seat and look bigger than they actually are.Prefer to support your feet on your toes and position them turned to the side. If you are photographing wearing winter clothing, such as a jacket, coat or cardigan, always unbutton the garment.
Always bend the leg closest to the camera and rest it on your toes so it doesn’t look longer like the photo on the left.
To appear more delicate and fragile when taking photos in a sitting position, you can bend your spine a little, leaning on one knee. But don’t overdo it! Upper body, neck and belly must be tense, which greatly influences posture. The whole body should, in a way, lean a little towards the knees: the head, the hands and the shoulders.

10. Taking pictures while sitting helps hide some weaknesses

This helps, for example, to camouflage a few extra inches around the waist or when the legs are shorter. The neck should be elongated, the shoulders straight and the back arched in the lower back so that the body appears feminine and proportionate. But you shouldn’t exaggerate, so that the tension is visible both in the posture and in the face. If you are in an open place and there is wind, even if it is light, that is good. There’s nothing prettier than hair being naturally modeled by the wind.

11. If you are posing sideways, consider some nuances

Try to make both your hands and both legs visible. Do not make a fist with your fingers, as in the photo on the left. Place one hand gently on your leg. If you cannot look up to the light and end up squinting, so it’s better not to face the camera directly: you can close them or look to the side. This will add a touch of mystery and give the photo an atmosphere.

12. Never put your hands on your face or clench your fists

You can adjust your hands so that they touch each other with the tips of your fingers or in a delicate way, as in the photo on the right. It is important to remember that when posing, your hands must be as relaxed and delicate as possible, and your movement should be smooth. Few people think about the position of the shoulders when shooting, but they also play an important role. Try to keep them in slightly different positions. Under no circumstances should we hide the neck, as this makes the face look much bigger.
