A day without laughing is a day lost

A day without laughing flees over the horizon like a lost day. This phrase may sound like a dentist’s advertising campaign, but it has been scientifically proven that the cerebral cortex releases electrical impulses one second after laughter begins. When we laugh, the brain issues a command that causes the release of endorphins, producing an internal sensation of comfort and well-being, in addition to relieving pain and providing balance to our vital tone.

Laughter is a natural relaxant and in some ways is a form of meditation. If we manage to laugh, we will enter a space where neither mind nor time exists. The mind lives on expectations, laughter is something that goes beyond. As with meditation, laughter makes us flow into a timeless state in which we can disconnect and forget about all our headaches.

Laughter is so therapeutic that it even has its own derivation in psychology: laughter therapy. A strategy focused on producing emotional states through laughter. Although it cannot be considered a therapy because it does not cure diseases by itself, it does help to counteract, for example, the negative effects of anxiety or to reduce the intensity of negatively valenced emotions, such as sadness.

As the years go by, you feel less like crying over stupid things and more like laughing over stupid things.

Benefits of laughter therapy

Laughter therapy helps to de-dramatize life situations, developing a competitive and optimistic spirit. That is why people who undergo laughter therapy learn to have a better vision of themselves, their environment and their possibilities. That’s why those situations that make us laugh “silly” are so irresistible.

What this technique tells us is that we have to laugh for at least one minute three times a day. Although it may seem like very little, it is enough for a person to notice improvements in their quality of life, with laughter being a great preventive measure against unwanted emotional states. Definitely, Laughter therapy allows us to release stress (lower our cortisol level) and improve our attitude towards life situations.

Various scientific studies have proven that Laughing is beneficial for health, it helps to increase our defenses and promotes psychological balance. What are you waiting for to try laughter therapy?

“There are people who make us laugh even if they don’t intend to, they achieve it above all because they make us happy with their presence and so it is enough for us to laugh with very little, just by seeing them and being in their company and hearing them, even if they are not there. saying nothing out of this world or even deliberately splicing in nonsense and jokes, which nevertheless all appeal to us.”

-Javier Marías-

Laughter keeps us away from depression

One of the best techniques to combat depression is a sense of humor. It will be much easier to get away from negative emotions and thoughts if we observe and interpret what happens to us through the positive filters of humor. Let’s not forget that The way we interpret facts determines our state of mind more than the facts themselves.

Thus, laughter therapy is a beneficial and effective technique as a complement to the therapy used to fight depression. When we laugh we feel more relaxed, happier, calmer, more relieved. Furthermore, as we have already pointed out before, on a chemical level, laughter generates endorphins that make us feel better. Pablo Neruda already said it; Sincere laughter is a mirror of our interior, so taking life with humor is a way to take care of our health.

“There’s nothing like deep breaths after laughing so hard. Nothing in the world like a sore stomach for a good reason.”

-Stephen Chbosky-
