9 Creepy Photos That Actually Have a Simple Explanation

There are those who prefer to believe in time travelers, flying saucers, giant monsters and ghosts. Okay, everyone believes what they want. But the truth is that many of the supposedly paranormal photos and videos circulating on the Web are nothing more than hoaxes. These are materials that have already deceived many people. Some of them were even published by the press! That’s why it’s important to know the truth behind the rumours, so that people stop believing lies.

O awesome.club reveals below nine images of supposedly paranormal phenomena that have been explained through science and logic.

1. Ghost in an office elevator in Singapore

This terrifying video was recorded by a security camera at an office building in Singapore. The material shows a man exiting an elevator and a ghostly figure emerging from behind him. When the video hit the web, it was soon seen by millions of people, who started debating what it could be. But it soon became clear that it was all propaganda created to warn of the dangers of working late into the night.

2. Photos of 10-meter skeletons found in various parts of the world

There are pictures of archaeologists digging up what appear to be giant human bones circulating on the Internet. Even some news sites claimed that they were the remains of a people called the Anunnaki. The theory is even romantic, but the images are from a Photoshop contest promoted by the website designcrowd.com, where you can see all the submitted works.

3. Time traveler of 1941

Perhaps you have already seen this photo, as it has been commented a lot. The image was taken in 1941 in Canada. Among the crowd, it was possible to see a modern-looking man, wearing a trendy T-shirt, sunglasses and a digital camera. But look more closely.

The man wears a Montreal Maroons hockey jersey (the team that ended in 1938), sunglasses worn by polar explorers (which were in vogue among ordinary citizens), and he carried a Kodak pocket camera, released in 1925.

4. Photo of the Abominable Snowman

The famous photo of what would be the Abominable Snowman was taken in 1967, causing controversy in the press for a long time. But not everyone knows that that year, director Roger Patterson signed a contract that established a payment of 37 thousand dollars for him to shoot a film about the mythical character. The image was taken by a local hunter and published, which served as a great advertisement for the film.

5. Brown Lady of Raynham Hall

The Lady in Brown photo is perhaps the most famous image of a ghost of all time. The photo was believed to show Lady Dorothy Walpole, who lived in England in the early 18th century. Analysis of the original photographic plate proved that no manipulation had been carried out, which meant that the image was considered authentic for a long time.

But that was only until the lawyer and investigator Alan Murdy found, in the library of the University of Cambridge, evidence that the famous Lady in Brown appeared due to a flash that had entered the dusty room, being reflected inside the camera.

6. Astronaut in the field

In May 1964, Jim Templeton, a firefighter from the city of Carlisle (England), took some pictures of his daughter in a sunny field. When the images were revealed, a strange figure was discovered appearing behind the child, wearing something that looked like an astronaut’s suit. Except that there was no one else in the place besides the fireman, his wife and their daughter.

After the case reached the press, it was proven that the photo simply showed Templeton’s wife, who, due to the color correction and overexposure of the image, came out as if she were an astronaut.

7. Something giant in the Zambian sky

Recently, many websites replicated a photo that showed a giant figure floating in the sky over a shopping mall in Kitwe (Zambia).

The author stated: “We were impacted. Some people thought it was a deity, and began to pray. Others fled in fear.”

After the news went viral, it was discovered that the image had been retouched in Photoshop. But such a creature really exists, and it can be seen in this video.

8. Spirit of the Newby Church

The photo above was taken in 1963, in a Yorkshire church, UK. The image apparently shows a figure with a hood and mask. And its height (determined against the surrounding furniture) would be about eight feet. Although 55 years have passed since the case took place, the photo continues to generate controversy.

Some experts swear it’s real, while others believe it’s the result of double exposure, which occurs when one image is superimposed on another. What do you think?

9. Mermaid Skeleton

“A strange creature, resembling a woman with a fish tail, washed up on a beach in Hawaii. After that, Egyptian scholars told us they discovered something incredible: the skeleton of a mermaid.” That was the story invented by some journalists.

What’s really surprising about all of this is that several outlets actually believed the fake story, despite it being clear, at first glance, that the photo was digitally retouched. On the left is the photo of the “mermaid”. On the right, the original.

Why do we deceive ourselves with such lies?

Those who purposely falsify images have only one goal: money. Before such photos reach the hands of experts, they pass through many news sites. Just remember the case of the creature “flying” over the Zambian sky. When the image was released by the media, its creators pocketed a good amount.

But why do we keep on believing, even when fraud leaps out at us? For something very simple: we want to see a miracle, something unknown, exciting and a little scary. But this is no excuse for us to help fill the pockets of scammers who take advantage of people’s good faith.
