8 Lessons We Learn When We Get Older

Most women are afraid of aging, but a mature age has its own advantages. One American lady, Michelle Combs, like many others, has desperately struggled with the signs of aging for quite some time, but when she turned 52, she decided enough was enough. Today, she is convinced that stereotypes can ruin a person’s quality of life, but the older she gets, the easier it is to let go of them. On her blog, Michelle wrote about what she eliminated once and for all from her life in order to be happier.

O awesome.club prepared a list of those principles that Michelle rejected without missing a beat.

1. Endure something you don’t like

“” I don’t know if it’s okay, but if they treat me badly, I don’t think about keeping my mouth shut. I really scream.”

Michelle is convinced that she must stop being silent when she sees or feels that injustice is taking place. We are willing to protect others, but we rarely do that for ourselves. It’s about building your own psychological boundaries. It is important to know how to show others how they should treat us. Talking about what we don’t like is the first step in that direction.

2. Worrying about what others will think of you

“One time, we went to a really nice cafe and I felt panicked. What would all those people think of me? In that moment, I decided that what they thought of me wouldn’t change the taste of the bacon omelette or the avocado I was eating. .”

At a certain age, we begin to understand what we are. Our quirks and weaknesses only add more flavor to our lives. Enjoy every moment! A positive woman named Baddie Winkle, who loves bright colors and bold clothes, shows the world the truth every day by being herself.

3. Apologize for the mess in the house

“You know why my house is messy? Because I don’t feel like cleaning it right now, and I’m disorganized and a little careless.”

Of course, no one wants to go to extremes, but sometimes you can forgive yourself if your apartment is a mess. After all, this is your home and you don’t have to apologize to anyone for that. In addition, it is worth trying to find out why it has been so difficult for you to maintain order and cleanliness.

And it doesn’t necessarily have to be a matter of laziness. There are several reasons why you might not even notice this happening. For example, you are so immersed in the stress of work that you simply do not have enough time or energy to put your house in order. This happens to everyone, it’s absolutely normal.

4. Feel ashamed of your weaknesses

“I no longer have sinful pleasures. Today, I enjoy them regularly and I like Lady Gaga”🇧🇷

You don’t have to explain to strangers how you spend your free time. It doesn’t matter if you like to read comics, collect matchboxes or cry when watching a soap opera, it’s all part of you.

Physicist Richard Feynman once said: “I have no responsibility for what others expect of me… I’ve never done what seemed important to others and I don’t intend to do so from now on”🇧🇷

Based on that principle, he did what he saw fit. Feynman received the Nobel Prize.

5. Wear uncomfortable shoes

“I don’t care if my socks go with sandals or not, my comfort is more important than hurting others’ sense of beauty. To hell with uncomfortable shoes.”

The desire to show off shoes that are a nightmare because of wearing a huge heel usually accompanies youth. With age, everything becomes clearer: what we wear should not only be beautiful, but also comfortable. Wearing nice clothes and shoes is, above all, a sign of respect for yourself and your own body. Your clothes are a reflection of your personality: this is one of the main rules of fashion designers. Clothes and accessories that fit you exactly are a clear sign of a happy and harmonious woman.

6. Store unnecessary things

“Almost everything in the pantry is unnecessary. My goal is to throw at least half of what we have in the trash. Maybe more.”

Trying to get rid of completely unnecessary things, each of us ends up thinking: “What if I need this tomorrow?” If you don’t know why you have this item now, you are unlikely to use it later. Getting rid of these items will help you restore order, both at home and in your mind, as well as breathing deeply. A reference book on the subject is The Magic of Arrangement, by the Japanese Marie Kondo.

7. Wasting time with people you don’t like

“Before, I used to have lunch with co-workers. Once, I watched them fight each other, and I realized I didn’t like them: they were petty and miserable. What the hell am I doing here? I asked myself.”

Our life is too short to waste it with those who don’t interest us and are unpleasant. It’s much better to focus on the family and friends we truly value. A study carried out by scientists at Harvard University (USA) showed that people who are satisfied with their relationships stand out for having better health.

8. Look for the good in everyone

“People make their own choices. If they decide to be intolerable assholes, so be it. I don’t feel obligated to have to look for the good in these people.”

If you look deep inside, you can always find some good in a person. The main question is: is it really necessary? You have to accept that there is a category of toxic individuals who are worth escaping like the plague. We’re talking about people who live playing the role of victims, who don’t know how to forgive, passive and selfish aggressors, used to playing games with the sole objective of benefiting themselves. Communication with them spoils your mood and turns out to be a huge waste of time and effort.
