There is only one condition: it is necessary to restore the abandoned fort that exists on the site. Local companies tried to renovate the island and turn it into a hotel, convention center, casino and even a prison, but all attempts failed. The place is used for reproduction by seagulls and herons, so it is not allowed to do large works in order not to scare away the birds.

There is an opportunity to live completely rent-free for six months on this small island with Australia’s southernmost (southernest) lighthouse off the coast of Tasmania, for anyone who wants to volunteer in the Maatsuyker Island Caregiver Program.
