6 Signs You’re Overdoing Your Workout – BOA FORM

1. Muscle pain

Post-workout discomfort is common, but excessive physical exercise imposes constant pain, even during light activities. “Even without making much effort, you feel as if you’ve done a strenuous workout”, explains Vanessa Branco, physical educator at Bodytech JK Iguatemi, in São Paulo.

2. Seasickness

The malaise and stomach ache are signs that you have to take it easy. “When you do exercise, especially high-intensity exercise, blood leaves the gastrointestinal system to supply working muscles, which need oxygen. This can cause nausea,” explains Vanessa.

3. Dizziness

Intense physical stress alters the hormone levels of cortisol and testosterone, especially among women. Hence, the feeling of dizzy head gives faces.

4. Strong smell

When you exercise too hard, the body begins to metabolize protein and, as a result, increases the levels of ammonia in the body. “The release of this compound ends up being done through the urine and can intensify its odor”, says Vanessa. It is also possible that the substance is released through sweat.

5. Irritability

Physical activity has the power to improve mood and increase disposition, but in excess, it causes just the opposite effect. Exaggeration overloads the sympathetic nervous system. “This causes irritability, mood swings, anxiety, difficulty concentrating and insomnia”, lists Vanessa.

6. Loss of appetite

“The American College of Sports Medicine has already proven that excessively vigorous exercise transiently suppresses the appetite”, reveals Vanessa. An individual who constantly exaggerates in physical activity without giving the necessary time for the body to recover, cannot reverse this process in the short term.
