6 Movie Theater Secrets Your Employees Know But The Audience Doesn’t

Watching a spectacular movie on a big screen is much cooler than at home, and that’s one of the reasons why we all love cinema. But what would you say if you found out that when you go to a premiere, you will be monitored throughout the session? These places hide many things, but sometimes their employees reveal some of these secrets.

O awesome.club compiled some interesting things you probably didn’t know about movie theaters. Unless you work on one of them, of course.

1. Most revenue per session does not come from ticket sales

It may seem strange, but reports point out that about half of the collection of cinemas comes from the sale of popcorn and soft drinks. Also, barring a few different arrangements, the majority of box office revenue generally goes to the production studio while theaters take a smaller percentage.

2. The audience cries, screams and runs out of the cinema

What was your strongest and strangest emotional reaction to watching a movie? Maybe you cried because you were touched by a tender moment, or looked away from the screen when something especially terrible or repulsive happened?

In theaters, many people cannot contain their emotions either, and this is normal. For example, there was a movie in which the scenes were very impactful for two spectators at the Toronto Film Festival in 2016. They even fainted.

3. Many avoid 3D as it can be harmful to health

The popularity of 3D movies is on a constant decline, and it’s not just because tickets are more expensive and glasses are sometimes scratched.

There’s one more reason viewers prefer 2D. When you put the glasses on, your eyes send signals to your brain that you are moving, because you appear to be inside the film, and this causes the visual analyzer to become confused. Your inner ear (responsible for balance), on the other hand, sends a signal that you are still quiet because you are actually sitting. This is what causes the physical discomfort that many experience when watching a 3D movie.

4. If there is a problem with the image on the screen, the employee in the projection booth will not be able to help.

Although the movie projector needs to be reprogrammed during the day, there is usually no staff at the projector while the movie is showing. Digital devices work perfectly well on their own, and today film showings are much more automated than they were in the last century when film projectors were available.

So, it is important to take into account that if there is a problem during the session (the image is blurred, it has sped up a little, etc.), you will have to get up and approach the staff outside the room. It’s pointless trying to ask someone next to the projector to do something, for the simple reason that no one is there.

5. There is more trash in the rooms on weekend nights

6. Employees can observe you

In some theaters, there are cameras that monitor the audience. This is done not only for security reasons, but also to prevent attempts to illegally record movies. And, thanks to them, cinema employees are able to find and remove people who behave inappropriately from the environment.
