5 things you need to know about Zumba –

Is it hard to wake up early to go to the gym? Think about including alternatives fitness more fun – the zumba, for example – in your routine. The dance modality spends about 250 calories in just 30 minutes and helps to tone legs and abdomen. spoke with the Colombian creator of Zumba, Beto Perezwho was in Brazil for the Fitness Brasil, sector fair that took place in Santos (SP), between April 29th and May 1st. Find out, below, five pieces of information that you didn’t know about the class that is a success around here.

1. It came about by accident

“In 1986, I was already a gym teacher and, one day, I only had a cassette tape with songs recorded from the radio to teach the class – no accessories! As I also trained as a dancer, I improvised for an hour with choreographies by dance. It worked out! People loved it and I decided to combine the two techniques (fitness and dance) to create a new modality.”

2. Complements running training

“Zumba triggers muscles that are not worked on in other sports. A race, for example, always has the same forward motion. The choreographies, on the other hand, end up demanding other areas, such as the obliques and the lateral muscles.”

3. Their choreographies are the same in 185 countries

“We use international music, from Latin to pop American. Because it is so globalized, the choreographies are the same in the 185 countries where Zumba is present. Japanese, Turkish and Brazilian dance in a very similar way, with small changes according to the style of each nationality.”

4. It’s for everyone

“Each person can adapt the choreographies to their own pace and capabilities. If you want spend calories extras, just put more intensity in the movements and move your arms and legs with more strength and enthusiasm.”

5. It has an alternative version – and more power!

“We created the Strong by Zumba for people who want a stronger and harder workout with squats, kicks and sit-ups. Although the movements are coordinated with the beats of the music, it is not really a dance. The sequences burn more calories and tone the body in a quick way.”
