The dermatologist pointed out that the sooner the treatment is started, the more chances the person will benefit and the hairs will grow back thicker. So, check out the most suitable treatments for thinning hair:

Topical and oral products

The dermatologist reported that one of the treatment options is through the use of topical and oral substances. “Minoxidil is an active substance that stimulates hair growth, as it increases the caliber of blood vessels, improving blood circulation in the region and prolonging the anagen phase (capillary growth). This substance is used topically in concentrations of 2% to 5%, but also in oral form, the concentration being very variable according to dermatological evaluation.”

The professional explained that “the treatment starts to take effect about 4-6 weeks after use and there may be an expected hair loss, but then the hair grows back.” She also warned that pregnant women cannot use minoxidil, as well as people sensitive to the substance. In addition, the substance should not be used without medical advice.

microneedling

The dermatologist reported that “when this treatment is used, growth factors are produced in the region stimulating the hair follicle.” This procedure can be done using a device called a dermaroller or pen-shaped devices.

Normally, an anesthetic ointment is used in the scalp region and there may be small bleeding, which is a normal reaction. The treatment is contraindicated for people who have a clotting disorder or allergy to any drug used. After the procedure, it is recommended not to expose yourself to the sun for 2 to 3 days.

Laser

According to Dr Gláucia, laser treatment “stimulates the stem cells present in the hair follicles to produce more hair and make these hairs thicker.” A low-power laser (LBP) device that emits red or near-infrared light is used. The procedure is painless, non-invasive and has no side effects.

Plasma

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment consists of injecting the patient’s own blood into the scalp to stimulate hair stem cells to produce more hair. And as with other treatments, Dr. Gláucia informed that this procedure stimulates the hair follicle contributing to the growth of the wires and making them thicker. Plasma treatment has no contraindications, as the patient’s own blood is used, with no risk of rejection.

The dermatologist warned that some home treatments such as applying salt, aloe and hydrogen peroxide do not help to thicken the hair. In addition, the use of bleach can cause hair to break.
