If you were connected to the small screen in the 1980s and 1990s (or enjoy the programming of the time), you certainly remember Unlimited Frame, series starring a couple of adventurous friends, fans of extreme sports and partners in a “handyman” business. The production, originally broadcast by Rede Globo between 1985 and 1988, was reprized by the broadcaster itself in 1988, 1990 and 1997. In 2005, Multishow aired the first three seasons, and in 2011 it was Canal Viva’s turn to open space for attraction. All this has given different generations, over the last 35 years, the chance to enjoy the adventures of Juba, Lula and their gang.

In this post taken by nostalgia, the awesome.club I would like to remember moments of the plot and show the “before and after” of its main actors, killing a little of the nostalgia of fans of the series, considered an icon of Brazilian TV in the 1980s. At the end of the post, you will find a bonus showing which great actor of teledramaturgy, now deceased, was part of the cast of Armação Ilimited by playing an unnamed character.

Unlimited Frame: more about the show

With the air of surfers and living in an abandoned TV studio, Juba and Lula accepted any stop that would allow them to pay the bills. For example, they were able to take on jobs as stuntmen in dangerous scenes or write speeches for presidents of the Republic. In the plot, they meet journalist Zelda, and both fall madly in love with her. Wow! The girl, in turn, is interested in both of them, and can’t decide which one she wants to be with.

Full of pop culture references and seen as a portrait of an era, since it was launched when Brazilian society was going through a moment of opening, Unlimited Frame is remembered to this day for having addressed controversial topics. Without wanting to give up any of the suitors, Zelda decides to date Juba and Lula at the same time, and the two male protagonists, in turn, face the situation without major dramas. The polyaffective relationship was inspired by the French film One Woman for Twofrom 1962.

Another interesting theme shown in the series is the issue of late adoption: together, Juba, Lula and Zelda adopt Bacana, an orphan boy as fun as his new parents. A lot of people still remember well the laughter he gave when he saw the boy grappling with precocious thoughts for his age, and repeating the catchphrase: “Oh, my little bag…”

The episodes had varied plots, ranging from the fanciful, such as the one in which an alien came to Earth in search of a father for his son, to the more serious, such as the one that shows Zelda fighting a contractor to help save an indigenous village from destruction. .

In addition to Juba, Lula, Zelda and Bacana, Armação Ilimitada also featured the characters Ronalda Cristina, Zelda’s best friend, who didn’t mince words and was always following the latest fashion; and Black Boy, a DJ who narrated the plot’s events directly from a radio station. Despite being a man, Black Boy was played by a woman.
