24 Photos That Show How Australia Is A Different Country

When we think of Australia, we automatically think of kangaroos, snakes and a great barrier reef. But this huge country is much more than that.

Today, we want to show you some interesting facts about life in Australia, a country full of mysteries and the place where many Brazilians live.

1. Kangaroos in the garden

Well, the first point is exactly what we think about most when someone speaks in Australia. People are used to kangaroos and wallabies (a kind of marsupial smaller than the kangaroo). But they also know that you have to keep a certain distance from these animals because they have huge claws and can hurt.

2. Driving in the summer

It is very common to drive with kitchen gloves. Do you know why? Because the heat in the country is impressive and the steering wheel gets super hot.

3. Elections

Once again we see how the heat influences people’s lives, but does not prevent them from doing anything. In the country, voting is mandatory and apparently people are going to vote as if they were going to the beach.

4. Nature

The country may look beautiful and peaceful, but you have to be careful. Sharks, snakes, alligators, jellyfish and many other animals can appear in front of you. Of course, this is not a reason to stay indoors all day, but it makes Australians very familiar with different types of snakes, spiders and other species.

5. Monotremes

6. Marsupials

Marsupials carry their young in a pouch for some time, and this is one of the best-known characteristics of these animals. Among the most popular are kangaroos and wallabies, mentioned earlier, koalas, wombats and Tasmanian devils.

7. Sugar glider

This small animal lives in Australia, New Guinea and some islands in Indonesia.

8. Kookaburra’s laugh

Nothing better than waking up at 5am in the morning with a loud laugh, right? Well, if you’re curious, listen to the laughter here. The kookaburra is originally from Australia and New Guinea.

9. Christmas

Just like in Brazil, Christmas takes place in the summer and Australians love to celebrate this party on the beach or by the pool.

10. Traffic signs

Australians love their country’s wildlife. While in other countries cars slow down for people, in Australia it also happens to respect animals.

11. Vegemite

A dark paste with a unique flavor. Either you love it or you hate it. It even became the theme song for the Australian band Men at Work.

12. Cassowary

These birds only live in Australia and New Guinea, and look like a cross between a peacock and an ostrich. They are beautiful and colorful, but beware that they can get very aggressive.

13. The magpie and the cyclists

All cyclists in Australia know how annoying these birds can be in the spring. They chase and attack without mercy. That’s why many cyclists wear helmets that look like hedgehogs.

14. WiFi

15. Strict quarantine rules

Australia is very strict with regard to what is brought in from abroad. This also applies to animals, which Johnny Depp learned the hard way. To bring a pet into the country, the animals must be quarantined. That’s because many diseases that exist in other countries never existed there.

16. Free fruit for kids

A few years ago, one of the supermarket chains started a campaign to give free fruit to children. While the parents do the shopping, the child can eat fruit as much as he likes. Many people questioned the hygiene, which is normal, because someone will always complain about something.

17. Street fights

18. Goanna or monitor lizard

When someone says lizard, we think of small animals. In Australia, things are a little different. This animal can measure 82 cm. Another interesting factor is that the monitor lizard can climb trees or even the wall of your house.

19. Cercartetus concinnus

Well, not all animals in Australia are poisonous and scary. This adorable animal will melt your heart.

20. Quokka

Another beautiful animal native to Australia is the quokka. They live in very isolated areas in the west of the country and are very easy to find. They are the size of a cat, love to be photographed, and always seem to be smiling.

21. Australian firefighters

22. AFL, or Australian Football League

THE Australian Football League (in Portuguese: Australian Football League; official abbreviation: AFL) is the association that organizes the Australian rules football competition in the country. The sport, like rugby, is very strong in the country.

23. Danger scale

You know you’re in Australia when the second lowest level on the fire scale is ‘high’.

24. Sydney Opera House

Sydney Opera House is famous not only for its unique appearance, but for its wonderful acoustics.

Bonus: hail

Hail storms are very common in some parts of Australia. The good thing is that they only last a few minutes, but they can do a lot of damage. When there is a risk of hail, everyone stays at home and takes their pets inside.

Apparently, if you’re driving, the safest thing to do is to get on the floor of the car in front of the back seat and have the front seat rest against you, so that the upholstery protects you from glass that can be broken by the force of hail.

These are just some curiosities about this wonderful country. If you want to add more details, share in the comments.
