20 Actor Replacements That Were Really Amazing

Film production, especially sequels, is always a tough job. The producers’ main task is not only to make a new film that is no worse than the previous one, but also to maintain the cast, which the audience has already become accustomed to. The same applies to series.

But it is not always possible for the actors beloved by the public to return to the set for the sequels. And then you have to resort to replacements, crossing your fingers in the hope that the “update” will be equally successful.

O awesome.club brought together films and series in which the actors were replaced. You decide whether the ideas have a good result or not.

Evelyn O’Connell, The Mummy

the first movie of The Mummy it was a great success, a fact that caused a great surprise to everyone. The merit, among other things, was the actress Rachel Weisz, who played the librarian Evelyn. She also participated in the second part, in which the main characters became a couple.

But Rachel Weisz refused to work on the third part, calling the script “horrible”. Therefore, it was decided to replace her with another actress, Maria Bello.

Neither viewers nor critics liked the replacement: Maria Bello’s performance was described as clumsy, and herself as lacking in charm and femininity. The incorrect selection of actors was not the only weak point of the film, which flopped at the box office without even having recouped the expenses of the directing.

Reggie, riverdale

Archie’s adversary in season one was played by Ross Butler, but in season two he was replaced because of his busy schedule. The second season’s plot is constructed in such a way that Butler’s character appears as often as possible because he is an antagonist and creates the necessary tension in each scene.

According to the producers, they were looking for “an actor who is as funny and attractive as Ross.” And they did. In season two, Reggie will be played by Charles Melton.

The doctor, Doctor Who

For the first time in this cult series, the role of the Doctor will be played by a woman, actress Jodie Whittaker. She will replace the previous Doctor, whose role was played by Peter Capaldi.

The Doctor’s sex change caused a flurry of emotions in fans. The choice of a new actor in itself is nothing new for the series: according to tradition, each season the Doctor changes his appearance and character, but for the last 50 years (the series has been around since 1963) the character has been exclusively masculine. The fact that the Doctor was touched by a woman turned out to be shocking news and not everyone was pleased.

What the new doctor will look like and whether the public’s expectations will be justified, we will only know this month of Octoberwhen the first episode of season 11 of the current format will be released.

Cat Woman, Batman: The Return and Cat Woman

Michelle Pfeiffer was and remains, in our hearts, the best Catwoman of all Batman movies. Initially, it was planned that she would also participate in the spin-off, but the film had been in production for so long that the actress refused to participate.

As a result, the role was given to Halle Berry, who, despite her talent as an actress, did not get such a splendid performance as her predecessor. The film was a complete failure, crushed by critics, and Halle Berry herself received a Golden Raspberry, the anti-award for worst acting performance.

Mason Verger in the series Hannibal

Michael Pitt, who played sociopath Mason Verger in season 2 of the series Hannibal, decided to drop the project. He was succeeded by Joe Anderson, known to the public for his role as Alistair in the film. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2🇧🇷

It should be noted that the audience did not even notice the replacement: in the third season, the character of Joe Anderson disfigured his face, so the actor always worked with makeup, and his voice tried to get as close as possible to his predecessor.

Gregor Clegane, game of Thrones

Gregor’s role was the most painful of the series. In season two we saw Conan Stevens, but he demanded a higher pay for the role and was replaced in season three. The new Gregor Clegane was Ian Whyte, who had previously played the role of the predator in the film. Alien vs. predator🇧🇷

After a while, Whyte played the role of the giant Dongo and also Wun Wun, while Gregor Clegane started out being played by Hafór Björnsson, a famous athlete from Iceland.

Victoria, in the saga Twilight

In the third film of the saga, there was a replacement: actress Rachelle Lefevre, who played the villain Victoria in the first two parts, was changed by Bryce Dallas Howard. According to official sources, the decision to replace the actress was made by Rachelle’s participation in the filming of an independent comedy with Dustin Hoffman. Producers said that Bryce was going to bring something new to Victoria’s image, making it more complete.

An even bigger surprise after the actress swap was Rachelle’s claim that there really wasn’t any sort of “schedule mismatch” and that she also had the role of Victoria in the third part. In fact, her participation in the comedy only lasted about 10 days, and the actress carefully took care that there were no “bumps” in the shooting schedules. According to her, she would have refused to participate in several major projects because of the role of Victoria and was seriously offended by the decision of the studio to give the role to another actress.

Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter

In the first two films Harry Potter, the role of Albus Dumbledore was played by Richard Harris. But unfortunately, in 2002, the actor died and the character was played by Michael Gambon, who first appeared in the third film.

Fans criticized the performance of Michael Gambon: according to them, their Dumbledore turned out to be very difficult and did not look anything like the kind and smiling director of the books, achieved in the interpretation of Richard Harris. However, in the following parts, the actor softened his character, which lessened the unpleasant impression caused by the exchange.

Fox Mulder and John Doggett, X file

We’re all used to seeing David Duchovny in the role of Mulder, and replacing the actor would definitely spell a complete failure for the series. However, Duchovny was switched, although it was noted that the new character was not a replacement for Mulder, but merely a new hero.

The new protagonist, FBI agent John Doggett, was played by Robert Patrick, who we all remember as the T-1000 “liquid terminator” from the movie. Terminator 2: The Last Judgment.

Hurrem, Muhtesem Yüzyil — The Sultan

The series (not shown in Brazil) talks about the real Hürrem, the concubine of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. The series tells how Hürrem (whose real name was presumably Alexandra or Anastasia, historians have not come to a conclusion) becomes the favorite concubine, and then the sultan’s wife, and struggles for power with the other concubines.

The main role was played by actress Meryem Uzerli, but before the series ended, she left the project, likely due to a nervous breakdown related to a difficult breakup with Turkish businessman Can Ates. Another reason was financial: the actress learned that the sultan’s interpreter received a large sum for broadcasting the series in Arab countries.

Producers were forced to replace the actress: Vahide Gördüm, who played the sultan’s wife at a mature age, became the new Hürrem. In general, her performance did not receive very good reviews from the audience: her Hürrem was seen as too rigid and imperious.

Rust Cohle, Raymond Velcoro, True Detective

The first season of the series True Detective fell in the taste of both the public and the critics. Its protagonist was Matthew McConaughey, but for unknown reasons, the actor refused to work on the sequel.

The producers were forced to replace not only the actor, but also his character. The second season, starring Colin Farrell, told about other very different people and about other investigations.

The first season was very successful, it received 5 Emmy Awards and many positive reviews.
The second, unfortunately, failed to repeat this success: critics called it weak compared to the previous one, and the production did not receive any more awards.

Daario Naharis, game of Thrones

In game of Thrones, there were some replacements of actors, but the audience did not pay attention to most of them. On the other hand, the change of the character Daario Naharis, the seducer of Daenerys, had an impact on the opinion of the series.

In season three he was played by Ed Skrein, known for his role as the film’s main villain. Deadpool🇧🇷 In the fourth, the role fell to Michiel Huisman, and many viewers were uncomfortable with this. However, ultimately, Huisman did as well in the role of Naharis as his predecessor, and the audience accepted the new interpreter.

Clarice Starling, Hannibal

The film The Silence of the Lambs deservedly part of the treasure of cinema. The main role, agent Clarice Starling, was played by Jodie Foster, but in the sequel, she was replaced by Julianne Moore. The reasons for the move were never disclosed, but it is believed that the actress declined to participate because she was busy with other projects or that she requested a percentage of the film’s screenings.

However, the public received the replacement with reservations. Although Julianne Moore did a great job of playing a more grown up, tougher Clarice, she couldn’t convey the strange attraction between her character and Hannibal Lecter that had fascinated the audience in the first part.

Ruby, Supernatural

Ruby, a demon played by Katie Cassidy, first appeared in the series’ third season. Supernatural🇧🇷 However, at the end of the fourth season, her character dies to reappear in the fifth season, but in a new incarnation, played by Genevieve Cortese.

According to the official version, Cassidy could not continue filming because of his participation in other projects, particularly the miniseries. Harper’s Island. The new Ruby was not popular with the public, despite the producers opting for the more striking appearance of Cortese.

Jennifer Parker, Back to the future

You probably didn’t even notice this change, but it happened: in the first and second parts of the movie Back to the future, Jennifer Parker was played by two different actresses. In the first, Claudia Wells, who, thanks to the film cult, received a ticket to Hollywood. However, due to her mother’s illness, the young girl…
